Probably true. However, I would think that controlling a vehicle at high speed is something you need to be able to do to be a successful racer, which Tony Stewart is.

Don't worry - in a month this will all be the "liberal media's" fault going after a sport that they don't like because of "rednecks."

It is a dirt race track, not a sidewalk.

And you believe that Stewart hit him on purpose?

What's next, murder on the PGA tour?

These are people who are not expected to do anything more than turn left. It's no surprise that someone got out of their car thinking their body could stop a fast moving vehicle. It's also no surprise that Stewart could not turn left properly to avoid the collision.

Ward is at fault. Look at how deep into the track he goes. Plus one car had to swerve to avoid him as it was.

Like Gretzky's daughter was not hot enough for him....

    Explains the cocaine, though.

Hmmm.....Stewart runs Ward's car into wall.....yellow flag goes up....cars slow down....Ward gets out of his car (very angry) and walks out onto track ...dodging another car and pointing toward Stewart......Stewart runs Ward down.

Was there animosity between these two drivers before the race?

These were open wheel Sprint cars on a Dirt track.

These cars have some serious Horsepower and you're basically putting the vehicle in a " controlled " slide every time you make a corner accelerating as you leave the apex.

The Distinctive wings that are used on Sprint Card have offset side plates to generate side force toward the center of the track as the cars slide around the track.

Stewart would have had to made a split second decision in a car that was being pulled toward the apex of the corner by its massive wing on a dirt track while he was in a controlled slide.

These are not conventional vehicles that are easy to maneuver in split second situations and I sincerely doubt Stewart wanted to hit that kid.

Re: NASCAR's Tony Stewart hits, kills driver

These cars weigh approx #1300 lbs and have anywhere from 700 to 850 hp at the wheels. When you step on the gas that car is going to go sideways. The whole car is designed to turn left. The tires are staggered to go left, the suspension is set up to drive left, everything about these cars are about going left. I have driven them before and they do that job very well. On top of the fact that there is a VERY good chance the drivers had at least one way radios in the car with the tower telling them a car and driver was stopped on the track stay low.

I believe Tony mean't to scare the guy and clipped him. I don't for a second believe he intended on actually hitting him. Ward shouldn't have come that far down the track and Tony as well as the driver in front of him were going to fast and too high on the track. Fault on both parties and no charges are likely to ever be filed and shouldn't. Tony had been making split second decisions all night and this one was just a bad one. His temper is well noted, but again he didn't mean to hit him just maybe throw a little dirt his way.

My thoughts are with the Ward family and for Tony Stewart. The Ward family has lost a member and Tony will live with this for the rest of his life. It's likely to cost him almost everything he has. It did cost Ward everything he had.

When Stewart hit the kid the whole track was under yellow....so Stewart was not in a "controlled slide" or under the influence of the aerodynamic wing or anything like that.

That being said...Stewart was not at fault here. Sad accident. Avoidable accident.

I believe Stewart might have intended to "roost" some dirt onto the kid, but in no way did Stewart plan to hit the kid with his race car.
Stewart might have done something stupid, but by far the kid made a much MUCH bigger mistake.
