White students to no longer be majority at school[W:62]

It's hard to miss. With the exception of Russian and the Eastern Block countries, white people live pretty well. Highest standard of living is in Western Europe.

US and Canada, if you counted only the whites, are probably the two places on earth where the streets may as well be paved in gold, we have it so good. How many of us own property, homes exceeding 2500 square feet, cottages or condos on the beach, multiple cars, and earn over well over $50k per year? Maybe not most, but one hell of a lot would be my guess...especially when we look at white males.

Depends on where you want to go with the conversation. White privilege comes from history, since European whites mastered the art of conquest and colonialism. It's probably a result of being the heirs of Roman Empire with a nice taste of Mongol Horde bred in.

Good thing DIL had ordered a large cake, though, even though our slices ended up quite small!! BTW, BG claimed no prior knowledge of the invasion, which made us all believe they are endowed with ESP when they're young....it was the only thing that made sense, right? :lamo:

Point is that the thread, for which race was the whole point, was started by someone who is NOT progressive. So your talking point fails on it's face.
 
My daughter is a Hispanic in a majority Hispanic public elementary school. There are only 23 kids in her first grade class this year and I have not seen any signs of her school or class being overburdened in any way. It's a wonderful school and I am very happy with it.

Not inclined to put much stock in the numbers today...We have just as many reports that the numbers are being manipulated for political purposes. The fact is we have some 12 million (official number) I think more like 20 million here illegally, and no real plans on how to address this problem because the demo's want to stall it in the senate and blame reps for doing nothing, and reps want to just scream 'amnesty' for political purposes....Then there are the liars like you who just see someone say something you don't like and yell "racist"....You add nothing to a discussion.

The biggest "criminal" problem we had was that some of us smoked pot. Our graduation rate was pretty much 100%. When I go on-line almost everyone I graduated with is also on-line--I can tell by the solicitations I get every few years for yet another class reunion.

What does this mean?

I think it's obvious---I'm privileged.

Most of our parents were not married and our school lacked nothing: stadium, swimming pool, advanced placement classes, leadership programs, magnet school you name it. The biggest "criminal" problem we had was gangs. Our graduation rate was pretty much around 60%. When I go on-line almost everyone I graduated with (or who dropped out) is also on-line--I can tell by the solicitations I get every few years for yet another class reunion.

I was being glib, but also pretty much calling it what it is. Countless people with young kids move away from the big city just to ensure their kids go to mostly white schools. I'm sure that is why my parents back in the 70's moved from a near suburb to one which was far away from the metro area.

Today, even if the rich do stay in the city, they send their kids to private school. No one with money sends their kids to NYC Public schools, for example.

But isn't that the crux of this thread? The internal fear that someday the Hispanic population will overtake the White population? It's the exact same argument that was once used against freeing slaves, that Blacks would someday become the dominate race in America. Hasn't happened yet despite all the "welfare babies"; however, some would argue that the primary reason the Black population hasn't overtaken Whites has more to do with young Black men having come under clandestine attack since the Civil Rights era with false imprisonment or longer jail/prison sentences for lesser inclusive crimes (i.e., a few ounces of pot or crack cocaine = 5-10 yr sentence) compared to 1-3 yrs for a White male who commits the same crime. Frankly, I don't know what the answer is. What I do know is many of the fears White have held over the years concerning a national takeover by Blacks haven't come true. And I suspect the reason for it is very simple: We don't want to take over - never have. We just want inclusion, to be part of this grand experiment in forming a more perfect union here.

Assimilation...

Yes, I think it's necessary for all those who would call themselves "Americans" to conform to a certain set of standards, but they should do so of their own accord and never be forced to conform. Of course, if the so-called dominate race (GOP) continues to act as if they don't want a certain people being part of that grand experiment you can bet chaos will ensue...and just as what happened with Whites/the GOP of old they'll come to regret they choose fear over inclusion.

What you've described isn't so much a decision by your parents to leave simply because they wanted better for their children. What you've characterized as a caring parental gesture is really "White Flight" wrapped in racial bigotry. You'd just like to think your parent's decision to move was based solely on compassionate parenting. And in the 70's no less. Talk about being naïve.

Now, before you or anyone else comes down on me, let me say I have no problem with a family moving because they seek greener pastures. If opportunities are better somewhere else, I say relocate to where the getting is good! Nothing wrong with that. But let me be clear: White families just don't leave the big city just so their kids can attend a better, private school. They leave because they don't want to reside next door to a minority family or live in a neighborhood that is slowly filing up with minorities.

White Flight...a sad state of demographic self-isolationism.

I actually live on the east side of Houston, the place Fenton describes as hell on earth. He couldn't be more wrong. I live on this side of Houston because I want to, it's more relaxed and much less traffic. Plus, we don't run into racists as often on this side of town.

So it was not you that took a story that had jack and **** to do with illegal immigration, and tried to spin it as being about illegal immigration. You created the impression that people are responding to since you had to dishonestly spin the story. You are hardly in a position to cry bout it.

Was in Oaxaca mexico and they have small bags of salt tied to the tequila bottles down there. The salt bags also included ground up grasshoppers.
