No reason for Russia not to do so, especially given the present situation.

Hardly a surprising move.

'MOSCOW — Russia has granted fugitive National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden permission to remain in the country for three more years, Snowden’s attorney said Thursday, a measure that promised to further strain U.S.-Russian relations.'

Good...the hero is 'safe' for three more years.

And I say 'hero' for two reasons.

1) because he is a hero

and 2) because it seems to piss off a lot of people.

;)

yea this is just a slap in obama's face right here. ol you want this guy? yea we have him and well your not getting him back any time soon have a nice day.

he turned the whole thing on it's head that is for sure.

Sorry mods...did not see the other Snowden thread.

Please merge.

I saw that. But had you expected them to turn over a traitor in the present situation? That would have been a surprise.

He isn't universally considered a traitor.

No. There are people that don't understand that just because they like the damage done it wasn't criminal. As i remember, you have that problem.

We have a difference in opinion on the nature of the damage. You prove that he has done damage to our national security, and I'll prove to you that his only damage has been to US government credibility and global standing, causing huge embarrassment. Some dressing down at the UN. on the positive, more Americans now understand what many have known for a long time, including federal judges and constitutional lawyers, I'm only disappointed that you can't recognize extra constitutional behavior when you see it and can only hope that you are in a minority on that, if our constitution has chance of survival. Funny how you guys claim Obama has been violating the constitution left and right, and then when a guy like Snowden confirms it, of both Obama and Bush, you call him a traitor. Not good for liberty joG!

I can hardly believe you understand international affairs so little that you don't know that the things you mention above harm the population. Alone the higher costs of doing business should wake you up. I assume you just don't want to understand how bad his actions have harmed the US position in security and in trade.
But if you really don't see it, it would take at least a semester of learning to get an overview. And i am not willing to put a fruitless effort into it.

As to the domestic side, it could concievably been fine to blow the whistle and much easier to forgive the crime. As it is, however, he is a traitor of the worst type.

Do you contend that the right to keep and to bare arms is intended to allow us to defend ourselves from the tyranny of government?

Like I said, prove that Snowden has damaged trade, I'd say that's what Obama's sanctions are doing, and again, its NOT universally accepted that Snowden is a traitor.

The only question remaining is, what tyranny is. But here we have a case, where the question is another. The means Snowden chose caused much greater damage that was necessary to counter any constitutional dispute. Had he published information concerning domestic concerns, your example might work. But he chose a different framework. What he did caused huge and unnecessary damage. That is inexcusable and must be punished severely.

Document this damage for us joG!

You seem not to understand that it was undoubtedly treason. The only question can be, if it was justified. This type of fuzzy thought is really something you should do something about. But probably you don't even notice.

As to the damage, you might want to look up what Schultz and his colleagues in the EU parliament have been saying. I'm not interested in helping you with your homework. After all, you are the one saying the obvious is untrue and the massive reactions you yourself itemized have no cost attached. That is absolutely childish. I'm sure you will find write ups in the NY Times or Washington Post. I follow these things in the original so I am not sure.

As i said, I am not doing your homework. Above you say there were severe reactions and turn around to say they bear no costs. That is silly and childish. Look up how Schultz and his colleagues are using his material. If you di not know about what is going on, you are rather presumptuous to be blowing about your opinions as if they had substance.

Right, there has been no damage. Nice dodge there, think your going to send me looking for a wood stretcher?

If you are not interested in the correctness of your statements? That is up to you. But it really is easy to find direct losses made by US companies (Verizon's contracts with the German Governments were cancelled), Deutsche Telekom has been running a campaign to use them instead of American E-Mail providers, because they are safe and the Trade the German politicians in the EU Parliament are calling for discontinuation of negotiations for the trade agreement with the US because of the data mining by NASA. These are only a few examples standing for a large number of similar. But I am rather surprised you would not know about these consequences.
