American General Killed in Shooting at Afghan Military Academy - ABC News

An American general was killed today and 15 other soldiers wounded in an attack at a military academy in Afghanistan today.

The incident happened at Camp Qargha where Afghan military officers were being trained when a gunman wearing an Afghan army uniform turned his weapon against Americans and other Afghans, ABC News has learned. The camp was recently renamed the Marshal Fahim National Defense University for the country's deceased vice president,

A U.S. official described the shooting victim as a two star major general, the highest ranking official to be killed in the Afghanistan war. American generals usually have their security detail.

Very serious, I hope the response to this from the US is a military one. We can't allow this.

The only response is to get the hell out of the ME and stop destroying everything!

Its a no win situation. If being brutal in response to this worked, then the Soviets would have easily won in Afghanistan back in the 80s. We just need to say to hell with it and get out.

Ambassador killed...no response.
General killed...no response.

Ambassador killed...no response.
General killed...no response.

The General just got killed, the investigation hasn't finished. What do you want the repsonse to be, start mowing down random Muslims?

A military one? What do you have in mind, we start shooting Afghan soldiers? Unfortunately, the military can not solve all of our problems.... actually, there are very, very few problems that can be solved with the military. In fact, the use of the military probably creates more problems than it solves.... the Afghan occupation, for example.

Do you believe mowing down random Muslims with the correct response, I don't.

Might be too late for that, though, if the shooter turns out to be part of an organization.
If he's just a random fanatic, then by all means say to hell with it and get out.

Right now I don't know what the correct response should be. Regardless, I have a pretty good inclination that there will be no response regardless of facts. Besides, we probably won't know the true story until after the 2016 Presidential election.

A lunatic with a gun shoots a bunch of people at a school. What a barbaric country.

It is serious, but I don't see a need for a "military" response. A security response, absolutely. However, just like the Fort Hood shootings, just like the shootings at the San Diego naval installation, etc., there are deranged and evil people everywhere and not all situations are reflective of a larger problem.

General killed...no response.

Responding with overwhelming military force is exactly why Israel has been at peace for decades now.... That is also why the Soviets were so successful in Afghanistan...

Maybe if they were allowed to carry this would have been avoided......Oh wait..

Post of the day so far.

It's so RIDICULOUSLY obvious...the region is a mess. Let them clean it up.

It's like a bunch of well dressed scholars going to a crack party and getting all bent out of shape that the people around them are not acting 'proper'...and then these scholars decide to stay and try and 'fix' these crackheads.

You can't fix crackheads - I know, I was one (or anyone else that is messed up) - you have to let them fix themselves. But you best get out of the way while they do it.

Some US General is trying to train people in a country filled with people who despise Americans and this guy gets killed.

Well duh.

I am sorry he is dead...but one has to be astoundingly naive to be shocked that it happened.

And unless people want to see more brave Americans dying for NOTHING, I suggest America pulls every single soldier out of that quagmire...as fast as the ships/planes can bring them home.

What garbage. Taking an event in a war zone and trying to turn it into some second amendment debate? So sad.

Wait, are you talking isolationism? That is a bad word here.

No, I'm talking common sense for all but those who personally have something to gain by interfering in everyone else's business. For the umpteenth time, we can provide aid, help with starvation, homelessness, aids, farming advancements, water quality, trade and other business, joint projects that advance civilizations, encourage and enrich everyone. Tourism, disaster relief and all the other humanitarian adventures too numerous to list. But wishing to end US imperialism isn't isolationism, that's just a dirty four letter word you warmongers like to label peaceful people with.

I am all for isolationism and really really don't care what happens to the rest of the world.

You're on a roll.
