How terribly sad. Like the thousands of Afghan and coalition troops that went before him he gave his life in defense of democracy and the values of civilization. The training facility received 10,000 applications from eager Afghan recruits and I can only hope that those in the overwhelming majority go on to graduate and serve honorably for their country. For every attack like this it's worth remembering that 12,000 members of the Afghan security forces have died fighting the Taliban and its allies and frequent polls and voter participation have shown that support for the Taliban is in the minority. Yet it wouldn't be the first time a violent and entrenched minority has destroyed a country or an entire region.
