House passes $694 million border bill

I'd support a solution more like Ellis Island than the current system.

Why should we let anyone in? Because that's how our country works, and it's part of what makes it a great country.

Are you pure blooded native American?

but that isnt how our country works

it hasnt worked like that since 1870 or so

140 years.....

a few things have changed since then...

do i need to go over those changes?

Yes please. :)

It wasn't only Nixon - presidents have been doing this for 250 years.

Hence, the reason I find the sudden uproar over the President - or any President for that matter - publically announcing his willingness to exercise his veto power as he sees fit odd. After all, it's not like it's the first time he's threatened to use it. Why be upset about it now?

If a President were announce his intention to use an EO to declare that all left-handed, green-eyed males are required to sit on the left side of the bus, would you still wonder about the ensuing uproar?

Let us know when that happens

Obama already did something similar. That's what the current uproar is all about.

Something similar? You mean left-handed, blue-eyed males have to sit on the right hand side of the bus?

I must have missed that one.

sarcasm noted...you ignoring the point of my post also noted...and dismissed.

I...what?

I am a native American. I was born here to American parents. I could not care any less about politically correct definitions. Until we stop adhering to nonsense definitions we will continue to denigrate our heritage and willingly give it up. If you were born here to American citizens you, too, are a native American. But you are free to think less of yourself if you choose to.

It's fun when someone wants to change a definition of a word or phrase to make them feel better. Kudos.

so you are also a son of immigrants.

as for me, my family got here hundreds of years ago. they arrived as immigrants.
All people for all time have moved. I am still native American as were my father and mother at least five generations back. On my father's side six generations back one of the men mated with a woman from one of the local river bottom tribes where he lived. That is not what we are talking about. Americans have the right to defend their country from invaders. If the federal government is not willing to defend our borders then it is time to consider changing the government as this one has become more dangerous to its citizens than to invading foreigners.

Errors must be corrected all the time. Members of tribes are not native Americans (meaning native members of a country called the United States of America) unless they are also citizens of this country.

You don't get that do you?

A possible 1/64 is not "native", but more correctly, your ideology is "Nativism".

It happens a lot on this forum. See also: liberal, conservative, socialist, Marxist, Communist....

I get it fine. You're not a Native American. You're a citizen just like I am. I was born in New Jersey, my parents were born in Washington and California. My ancestors long before that came across on little wooden ships and entered through Ellis Island. Nothing wrong with being a citizen. It's fantastic in fact. Can't think of another country I'd rather be a citizen of.

I was not claiming tribal affiliation. Perhaps you missed that.

I am native American because my parents were Americans. My wife is a naturalized American. My children are native Americans.

I know many of you hate that you live in this country and look to tyrants to change it more to your liking. I do not know why you hate your neighbors but it is clear that you do.

Yes. I am native American. You are too.

It is a goofy idea that someone born here to American parents does not consider himself or herself a native American. Members of tribes are not native Americans. They are members of non-American tribes.

immigrants =/= invaders. we need to fix the system and bring the underground economy into the light.

I am stating that you are not a "native American", you are rather an American (US citizen) that holds to Nativist ideology.....which you yourself describe and promote on a daily basis.....so get your terminology correct.

OMG! We get it. A "native" is someone who was born here. Moreover, we're all African Americans, as our ancestors left Africa some 50,000 years ago or so. (Well, some much more recently than that.)

Why can't we all just be Americans?

No we're not.

Um, the term "Americas" existed long before the US was created, and describes North, Central and South Americas....in which the native peoples of the North, in what is now the US, are referred to as "Native Americans".

You don't get to change our common language to suit you ideology.
