IRS Retired Lerner calls conservatives "a**holes" and "crazies" in emails from IRS

Re: IRS Retired Lerner calls conservatives "a**holes" and "crazies" in emails from IR

I can't even call people doing stupid things or making stupid decisions stupid, fr fear of being called a racist.

That's stupid.

What liberties does PC remove?

Political correctness is a literary technique used to remove offensive language. The offense is removed by using happy, positive, and optimistic words and phrases to replace those which have become negatively perceived – “handicapable” versus “handicapped, for instance. The effect is that it then removes personal responsibility and inhibition from ones actions.

If inhibitory emotions are removed from the definition of ones actions, then the person is free to become uninhibited. They would no longer be subjected to emotions of guilt, embarrassment, or remorse.

This case can serve as an example of how a politically correct environment is detrimental. On the one hand, the government promotes the EBT card in the name of helping those at the fringes. On the other, the politically correct treatment of the welfare recipient reduces the inhibitory emotions of shame and guilt that may prevent the abuse of the welfare program. The EBT card is promoted as a debit card without the stigma of the paper food stamps. By not referring to the system as welfare, the politically correct terminology leads the recipient to believe they are receiving an income to which they are entitled rather than a benefit for which they should be grateful. The lack of guilt frees that individual from assuming a responsibility to pull themselves up by the boot straps in order to repay those that assisted – the taxpayer. Not to mention, the anonymity of the system also allows one to shirk responsibility because the oversight is not by those who know and interact daily with the person in need. The cascade of abuse and irresponsibility is also engrained by the lack of credible enforcement. While the government is increasingly willing to regulate the lives of the self reliant law abiding citizenry, politicians find themselves handcuffed by political correctness when it comes to intervening on behalf of the “low income” recipients. They can’t find the political will to regulate the recipients to make better choices.

This is the point at which the political correctness becomes life threatening. As the concept of personal responsibility is absorbed by politically correct dogma, we can see the effect that abuses of the food stamp program has on the lives of the children it is supposed to assist. The children have poor health and are plagued by multiple ailments that can result in premature death.

That's stupid.

Oh I agree. Not being allowed to call stupid people stupid is pretty stupid.

Oh, please. You're just pretending to be a victim. And you're pretending to be a victim of an object! haha

What liberties does PC remove?

The right to speak honestly without being called a "domestic terrorist" by Harry Reid; or fear losing your job by speaking what you believe, as has happened with some Generals in our military, or worry about what happens to your business if you don't agree with the administration on how you should run said business; the right to disagree with policies without being called a racist; the right to question one-size-fits-all-American-children on what they should be given for lunch, and the right to pack a lunch that you know they will eat without being termed a troublemaker; the right to legally own a firearm -which is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights - without fearing confiscation of said fire-arm; the right to question why our immigration laws are being ignored ....do you want more examples of current over-reaching government PC?

Good evening, ecofarm. :2wave:

Instead of all these bull**** generalizations (you're just blaming an object for political opposition), how about you give us a specific example of PC preventing you from speaking your mind.

Just think as to the response of legitimate criticism of Obama polices (that would be a legitimate policy dispute by the way) was responded to may nearly everyone with cries of being racist.

Or have you already forgotten / ignored, this hypocrisy portrayed by so many in the public arena?

Or do you deny that this every happened?

It never happens to me. It seems to be your problem.

You're such a poor victim! Oh, how could the evil PC be so terribly cruel to you? How do you endure??

It's like your deck has 52 victim cards.

I think you are choosing to ignore that with disagrees with your ideology.

So I think it's time to pull your head out of the sand on this one. Really.

I'm not blaming things on an "object" - I'm blaming the administration for using the "object" to silence dissent this administration does not want to hear. And both sides of the aisle seem to be employing "political opposition" to what is currently occurring - don't you find that unusual? And when the Supreme Court rules unanimously on things, that is also telling, IMO. I cited examples of what I meant in my post - why do you refer to them as "generalizations?" I try to stay factual - please correct me where I am in error - or did you want dates when they were spoken or written?

Very well said, Polgara. Probably better than what I have said. The racism card is being deployed to silence legitimate political criticism and opposition, and dissenting speech.

Wow, you even have a link-dump to proclaim your victim status. You are REALLY committed to claiming victim. Do people generally show you pity?

No one has been silenced. Put the victim card away and step away from the self-pity.

Re: IRS Retired Lerner calls conservatives "a**holes" and "crazies" in emails from IR

are you talking about the civility of political discourse five years ago, when obama was shouted at during a special address to congress?

Hm. Let us see. One member gasping "you lie", v multiple members and a presidential candidate tacitly endorsing the idea that george bush either participated in, directed, or knew about 9/11 before hand.......

Glad to, but you did ask!

Re: IRS Retired Lerner calls conservatives "a**holes" and "crazies" in emails from IR

so a congressman can shout "You Lie" at a president during a special address to congress? that is an dangerous precedent you are supporting, especially if the same thing happens to future presidents.

Ah, no. That is not really dangerous at all.

Unlike, for example, the precedent that the President does not need to actually follow the written law, but is free to "borrow legislative power" and change it as he deems most convenient. For Cripes Sake, even Ed Schultz is saying that the President is abusing his position too much, setting too dangerous a precedent with his latest threats to go around Congress on immigration.

What is dangerous is a precedent of a fully partisan Justice Department, of using the IRS to "reward your friends and punish your enemies". That is what is dangerous. And I look forward to liberals discovering that fact. Which I predict they will do in January of 2017.

To declare someone a racist is indeed an attempt to silence them - it is saying that they do not belong in the public debate, to shame them and hound them and drive them from discourse.

That they have failed is not an alibi.

Those that claim legitimate criticism as being racist?
OR
Those that claim being accused of voicing legitimate criticism as being racist?

I have to agree with this whole heartily. The IRS has far too much power to be used as an instrument of ideology. It needs to be 100% neutral, or as much as is possible, to be fair to all tax payers regardless of ideology.

I would change that to "the structure of governance generally". Polling officials who play fast and loose to give their team an edge up are just as criminal, and generally any public official or employee who uses the power granted to them by the people to seek to twist or bend the will of the people should be treated as what they are - people who threaten the very underpinning of our political system. R or D, throw the absolute book at them.

The USA seems to be the only democracy where the citizens are fearful, and rightfully so, of their tax collectors. A strike might be in order.
