Louisiana Republican Flees Interview When Asked About Obama's Birthplace

If she claimed climate change is a hoax, then she is another idiot. But whether she did or not, her reaction to the questions asked must be nuanced. I believe she fled the interview because she believed that it would be the least damaging option.

Option 1 - Assert that global warming is a hoax -> Give the Democrats some red meat.

Option 2 - Deny that global warming is a hoax -> Lose support from members of her own party.

Option 3 - Flee the interview -> Stay alive for now.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but after all, she is one of those slimy critters known as a politician. Democrat? Republican? Doesn't matter. Slime? Yea, definitely that. LOL.

You describe what's wrong with our political process, focus is on power, not truth and answers to our leading problems.

The US Senate candidate from Kentucky yesterday stated that Iron Dome protects Israel from terrorists in tunnels. I'm pretty sure every election cycle we are going to see & hear what used to be called gaffes. I believe the new word is "speak-o".

From the sound of it, that is a pretty serious gaffe, bordering on painful ignorance.

How many Libbos get nailed for stupid comments?

We can't help it if conservatives have been voting for more crazies than liberals.

The Libbo politicos don't get asked stupid questions like these. If you're into idiotic reporters asking idiotic questions, thats your problem, not mine.

Well that is a nice theory. Too bad it ain't true. Got anything to back up that assertion?

Asking irrelevent questions is a gotcha interview.

She did not think those positions where irrelevant when she stated them did she?

This was nothing but a "do you still beat your wife" interview. Can you prove it wasn't?

Why should she be attacked for telling the truth?

She doesn't need to be "attacked" but she should be exposed for denying science. In fact, we don't want such types in office, that's dangerous.

How many Libbos get nailed for stupid comments?

Many. Just listen to Fox News commentators, The Blaze, Right-wing radio, all the time. I can't count how many times Lerner got quoted on Hannity, Limbauh, or even Mark Levin's show. let alone Obama's comments, Reids, etc.

Again, when a politician says something stupid in public, they should expect to be questioned on it.

Can you prove it wasn't a gotcha interview?

You are the one who made the claim it was a gotcha interview.

I would have a hard time considering any interview where a politician is asked about their stated positions a gotcha interview. It is not the interviewers fault she was illprepared.

So what if she did?

If she did then there's nothing wrong with asking her about it, and it is not a gotcha internew. If she didn't, then it's a gotcha interview.

Surely you could've figured that out for yourself.

This was nothing but a "do you still beat your wife" interview. Can you prove it wasn't?

No it wasn't. She made stupid comments and got questioned on those comments. Talk about personal responsibility, she makes the comments and you blame others for asking questions about those comments.

This was nothing but a "do you still beat your wife" interview. Can you prove it wasn't?

yep. that question was never asked

duh!

what was asked were questions about two topics. both topics the candidate had commented about previously: the validity of global warming and the legitimacy of Obama as president based on his birthplace

neither of the comments about her opinions on those topics approaches being a 'do you still beat your wife' question

actually, that you incorrectly used that expression causes me to believe you are ignorant of the meaning of such a question

I'm not a fan, but I respect her style as appealing to a pretty good sampling of American voters. She appears "real" -- warts and all. She definitely has a fan base . . .

Not sure what that says about 'Mericans, but there it is.

Yes she does. But I think her fan base is more the tea party types and not the establishment Republicans.

Can you prove it wasn't a gotcha interview?

Several here have already proved that to you. But they can't.........well never mind.

Are you serious? It's a simple question with a simple answer. "Hawaii." Or if she's a birther, voters have a right to know that.

Yes I'm serious. Should they have asked her what 2+2 is so we can see whether she can do math? Let's turn it into a game show and ask all sorts of dumb questions. I know, she could be handed a Doctor Suess book and tested whether she can read it aloud. I want to know whether a candidate can read before deciding whether to vote for them.

For sports, I follow things like football and baseball, I haven't turned politics into my sport.

Maybe she shouldn't have made dumb comments and she wouldn't have been asked that huh? Oh wait, that's personal responsibility, can't have that.

Maybe Journalists shouldn't be mocking people/potential candidates and start asking serious questions...

The question concerning her position on climate change was a serious question, as climate change is an issue that has come before the Congress in recent years and almost certainly will do so again.

In the past, Ms. Whitney stated, "Quite inconveniently for Al Gore, and for the rest of the politicians who continue to advance this delusion, any 10-year-old can invalidate their thesis with one of the simplest scientific devices known to man: a thermometer."

Lenar Whitney: Climate change is the biggest 'deception' - UPI.com

That statement would imply that she had seen information concerning temperature data indicating that the world is not warming.

Here's what the interviewer noted in The Washington Post:

Whitney’s brand of rhetoric obviously resonates with some very conservative Louisiana voters who view President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency as big-city elitists directly attacking the state’s energy industry and their own way of life. And she would hardly be the first “climate denier” elected to Congress. But it’s not unreasonable to expect candidates to explain how they arrived at their positions, and when I pressed Whitney repeatedly for the source of her claim that the earth is getting colder, she froze and was unable to cite a single scientist, journal or news source to back up her beliefs.

The most frightening candidate I

The gap between her unambiguous claim and her inability to respond to the question revealed that her unambiguous claim on climate change was nothing more than a hollow soundbite. Not every political leader will reach or accept the same conclusions on given issues (even matters where there is scientific or economic consensus), but the adoption of superficial positions that are little more than soundbites does not give confidence that such leaders will be willing or able to make informed judgments.
