The ever increasing radicalization of the right becomes more and more obvious every day and now this poll clearly provides more evidence of the divide in America between the right and everyone else.

65% of Americans reject the political tactic of impeachment but a full one-third of the citizenry are more that willing to go down that road. Nearly one in five simply want to use it to advance their own political objections and need no actual crimes for the process.

While I don't like Obama, it doesn't make sense to impeach him as it impeachment is a rather long process and his term is virtually over.

I suspect if the GOP takes the Senate in the fall elections - the tea party zealots on the right in the House will not be able to resist and they will at least try.

The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Also - I'm not suggesting we oust the Reps and Dems and replace them with more Reps and Dems.

That would surely not accomplish very much at all.
Throwing them all out wouldn't really be holding them accountable. It would mean you don't know their specific transgressions, and whatever they did, you condemn them equally. And who exactly do you plan to put in? People from fringe parties that the populace doesn't actually support? This sounds awfully tyrannical for a way to improve democratic elections.

Not to mention his ouster at this late date would accomplish nothing other than to put Biden in office (shudder). The best thing that can be done with this president is to (again shudder) give both houses of congress to the opposition. Let them neuter him through legislation.

The truth is that there is no right wing movement to impeach Obama...for two reasons. One, even if the house of reps impeaches Obama as they did with Clinton, they know that it will go nowhere in the Senate....and two...they know that if Obama were impeached and kicked out of office...Joe Biden would become president at least until 2017. The left is merely pushing impeachment fears because they know the democrats in congress are in for a very bad day in the midterm elections in November and they feel that they only way they can inspire the left to come out and vote in large numbers is to make it about fears of impeachment.

Actually I saw a report about this yesterday and it turns out that for nearly every president at this point in their second term, about 1/3 wanted impeachment regardless of which party the president was from. IIRC, Clinton 29%, Bush 31%, Obama 32%. All within a margin of error to each other.

I love to bash cons, but in this case it's entirely wrong to single them out.

Re: POLL: one-third say Impeach Obama

The problem with impeachment is that it has nothing to do with the president being guilty or not. He can attack, avoid, destroy the Constitution all he wants. Trample on our rights, force us to buy health care, take actions he has absolutely no power to take, and it doesn't matter. All that matters is if there is political support to impeach him. That's a high hurdle, since most of the democrats support his action, or just don't have the guts to stand up for the people and the Constitution (republicans too).

And then what to you get? Joe Biden, Obama's greatest insurance policy.

And impeachment may not get you what you want. I think that if Clinton was removed from office, and Gore was able to campaign as a sitting president, he would have won the election.

That's the problem with the Democrats and the difference between the Democrats and Republicans.

Back in 1974 the Republicans had the cajones to approach Nixon and convince him it was time to step down and resign his office as POTUS.

And all Nixon did was lie about a third rate burglary that he wasn't involved in or knew about until after it happened and just talked about using the IRS to go after his political enemies. He never used the IRS but thought about doing so and it seems it's an impeachable offense to do so according to the Democrats.

    /sigh

That's not the difference between Democrats and Republicans; that's the difference between politics 40 years ago and politics today. But god forbid anyone poke holes in your "Republicans always good, Democrats always bad" nonsense.
