So don't worry too much, it's just going to be talk and finger pointing.

The part that bothers me are the 35% of independents. Unless they're unaware of what is or is not a crime, they're just engaging in partisan hackery if they support impeachment. I guess they're not as independent as they claim.

Why do you think the new crop would be any different? They'd come from the same schools of thought, often the same actual schools, and they would have to sell their votes to the same corporate interests in order to fund their campaigns. Most of our elected officials are actually honorable people. But the process they have to go through in order to get elected and stay elected requires them to pay attention to a lot of other interests.

Instead of capitulating like the dems did with Iraq, and then whining about their own actions, the Republicans are holding their ground.
During his first few years, Obama sought consensus. He was told very clearly that there would never be any and that the primary goal of the right wing was to ensure that he wouldn't be re-elected. After being told that enough times, he stopped asking. I don't think you know what "capitulating" and "holding their ground" actually mean.

In order to do that, we'd probably need to get rid of first past the post voting. It almost necessarily forces us into a two party system. I like ranked ballots with instant runoff, personally.

It's not just the right, 35% of the "radicalized" independents polled think Obama should be impeached as well. That's more than the total percent of those who would seek impeachment.

Try looking at the whole picture. I know its difficult, but try. People are unhappy with Obama, period.

Anyway, there's no need to impeach Obama, voters everywhere can be heard at the polls in November.

I don't call failing to govern "holding their ground" . Did you know that 1/4 of our embassies have no ambassador because the House will not confirm them? What possible reason can there be for that?

The ever increasing radicalization of the right becomes more and more obvious every day and now this poll clearly provides more evidence of the divide in America between the right and everyone else.

65% of Americans reject the political tactic of impeachment but a full one-third of the citizenry are more that willing to go down that road. Nearly one in five simply want to use it to advance their own political objections and need no actual crimes for the process.
One Third of Americans are stupid.

Both parties are to blame. Sorry if you don't like reality, but I'd suggest that's your problem. Continue thinking that voting for the lesser of two evils isn't voting for evil. That's your business. But don't think that such inane and vapid statements mean that you've made a debate point. You haven't.

Is that a fair comparison? What percentage of priests were abusers? What percentage of politicians are. It is a good point that the system needs fixing, but it can never be fixed while those who broke it are in power. Your opposition to changing all politicians suggest that there is something special about them that is somehow or for some reason irreplaceable which of course is not the case.

it won't. it should, though. i'm fairly convinced political parties are just going to continue to bring more problems than solutions.

though i do like the simplicity of whoever gets the most votes wins in one round, i'd definitely be willing to look at other ways of doing it. our monochromatic, "it's them or us, **** you if you can't take a joke" status quo is generating a lot of hyperpartisan bull****. it sucks that many political discussions can be boiled down to "i hate you, enemy. my side is right, your side is wrong. also, **** you, enemy." this is our country, not some sort of board game. we need to take a look at the parts of the system that aren't working.

edit to add : i don't mean to claim perfect objectivity, either. i'm just making an observation.

Because maybe, by actually holding the elected officials accountable, they'll start doing what they were elected to do.

Every time we re-elect somebody we basically condone their behavior.

If we fired the lot of them, the next group in might actually be frightened enough to do something lest they be fired too.

Also - I'm not suggesting we oust the Reps and Dems and replace them with more Reps and Dems.

That would surely not accomplish very much at all.

    Both parties ARE to blame.

And what solutions do either party offer? None.

All they do is finger point, scream like babies, and cast blame back and forth like a ping pong ball.
