Central American leaders blame U.S. for border crisis[W:62]

A day before meeting with President Obama at the White House to discuss the border crisis, the presidents of Honduras and Guatemala blamed the wave of unaccompanied children inundating the U.S. on American foreign policy and on gridlock in Congress over immigration reform.Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez said ambiguity in Washington’s immigration debate has helped human smugglers, called “coyotes,” convince Central Americans that they can stay in the U.S. if they make the long, illegal journey.

What a couple of Idiots....How about they get control of their own countries, and realize that people are fleeing their socialist countries for freedom...We, can't help them...Send the kids back.
Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

What a bunch of bull****. If their countries weren't a couple of ****holes, all those people wouldn't be wanting to leave in record numbers.

Mr. Perez said U.S. efforts to combat drug gangs in Colombia and Mexico are pushing organized crime into Central America. “What has been good for Colombia and Mexico has been bad for us,” he said.

Mr. Hernandez said the drug trade — “the monster” — thrives off of Americans’ appetite for illegal drugs. “That monster has one foot in Central America and one foot in the U.S.,” he said.

The Obama administration also has blamed violence and drug gangs in Central America for forcing families and children to flee to the U.S.
Yes, but they don't seem to realize is a difference between those countries. Mexico is right on our border, that does deserve our attention because it effects what enters our country. Colombia is a whole different ballgame and our involvement is not strictly because of drugs or gangs and goes back decades. I'm not saying our foreign policy to Central America is perfect but we can only do so much and their own leaders also need to step up and handle things as well instead of just blaming us. **** just in Guatemala alone in 2012 we gave them $144,633,432!!

How much money does the U.S. give to Guatemala?

In fairness, they said the US "SHARES" blame. They recognized that they need to do more with their limited abilities and pointed out that the US's successful campaigners in Columbia and Mexico have pushed gangs and drug lords into their countries.

Do you think we should increase aid to Central America? I'm torn because we already do give them alot and it's like we keep helping and helping all these countries and nothing really gets accomplished and our own country is failing in the meanwhile. We do share and we do help out yet when do they help or even thank us?

Well first, I was directing my comment to j, and I should have quoted him, sorry that it looks like I was responding to you. You make a valid point however. No I don't think we need to throw more money. However, the ME and Eastern Europe have admittedly had my attention lately, and I'm not sure of recent developments in Central America and whether we've been truly trying to help, for those people's benefit, or whether its been more US help that's aimed at advancing "US interests" as we've seen so often there for a century now.

I didn't think it was directed at me, just thought you made some good points and wanted to explore those a little more.

One thing is also true that Mexican and Central Americans will always be correct about when they point it out. US demand for drugs promotes the lucrative business, just sayin.

I mean, I can understand them. They must be very embarrassed. Nobody wants to stay in their paradise on earth and deserts to the Yankee Demon. I mean, that is egg on the vest for these guys.
