Gov. Jan Brewer issued this statement: “I am concerned by the length of time it took for the administered drug protocol to complete the lawful execution of the convicted double murderer, Joseph Wood. While justice was carried out today, I directed the Department of Corrections to conduct a full review of the process.

“One thing is certain, however, inmate Wood died in a lawful manner and by eyewitness and medical accounts he did not suffer.
This is in stark comparison to the gruesome, vicious suffering that he inflicted on his two victims – and the lifetime of suffering he has caused their family.”

Wood, 55, was convicted of first-degree murder February 25, 1991, and sentenced to death July 2, 1991.

Wood was involved in an unstable five-year relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Debbie Dietz, during the time of the crime. On August 7, 1989, Wood walked into the local body shop owned by her family and shot Debbie’s 55-year-old father, Gene Dietz, in the chest with a .38 caliber revolver, according to a statement from the AG.

Wood later located Debbie, and shot her once in the abdomen and once in the chest, killing her as well, the document stated.
Having had this argument before multiple times, anti DPers believe the victim(s) to be wholly irrelevant (I was told that directly).

Quite a story! Married five times; husbands all mysteriously disappeared... Wow! She does have the dubious distinction of being the first and only female to die by hanging, and I found it intriguing that she was defiant to the end! Just...Wow!

How about we just stop making victims out of murderers. Wouldn't that be a whole lot easier?

Sooo, who would prefer a quicker method of death?

Joe Wood.

Too soon?

#1 is all you've got. #2 is horse****.

I'm fine with restricting the DP to only those cases where there is a clear confession and/or conclusive DNA evidence. Btw, in this case, he did it, he said he did it, never denied he did it. They tried to get him off on reduced mental capacity because he was on meth a lot. That didn't work.

It's amazing the humanity given to criminals, but no thought of what their victims felt.

There is a reason this person was on death row, and sorry but no, I don't feel for him one bit.
Criminals are only one piece of the puzzle. Death penalty is part of a system where nobody wants to be left holding the bag when it turns out an innocent man was executed, like Rick Perry and that guy who was arrested for burning his family alive (apparently was probably an accident) which results in burying inquiries and scapegoating.

For bureaucrats and politicians who push ahead with executions that turned out to be mistaken, it's what we call "the career ender."

If you have a system where nobody wants to be held accountable for mistaken judgment, you should probably abolish that system.
If you notice something good in yourself, give credit to God, not to yourself, but be certain the evil you commit is always your own and yours to acknowledge.

If the death takes a long time, then yes.

Another botched execution. 2 hours to die. That is cruel and unusual. The death penalty needs to go.
As long as the people convicted are assuredly the ones commiting the crime then it should not go. Ever. I cana give a **** if it takes 1000 hours. How good do you think the victims felt? Did they die or get hurt humanely (if there is even such a thing)? Did they deserve what happened to them?

Again, this guy is lucky I'm not president, I'd sell death-row inmates for science experiments to further humanity like genetic testing etc., a guinea pig is worth more than them.
