Inmate Dies 2 Hours After Execution in Arizona

Justice is supposed to be emotionless. And here most of you guys are appealing to emotion to justify the death penalty and rationalize cruel and unusual punishment. Grow the **** up.

I didnt look at it that way.... ok I just did and I still feel the same. Why so many on this forum take the side of the murderer and not the victims family's is disgusting and I guarantee that tune would change if it was their loved one.

Those who take the side of a criminal are probably more likely to commit crimes themselves, than to be victims of crimes.

Therein lies the rub, they dont only want vengeance rather than justice, but would prefer a little torture thrown in.

Agreed. Crap like this makes us no better than the criminals we condemn.

Well, except for such silly little details as having followed due process of law, and only killing someone who has been properly convicted and sentences through that due process as a consequence of having committed a serious enough crime to call for being killed. Other that that, yeah, those of us who support putting murderers to death are exactly like murderers, if not worse.

Wrong. By exacting the highest value from a criminal, their life, we are upholding that we take innocent life as the most valued thing in society.

Grow the **** up?? Sounds like you're getting a little emotional?

Well, if emotion is completely irrelevant, caring for what this "man" suffered should also be irrelevant. The question would then be was justice ultimitely served by the guy's death? This whole thread is an appeal to emotion. It just comes down to who does your heart bleed more for.

And what method of determination did they use to arrive at the conclusion that suffering was taking place?

"gasping for air, snorting for more than a hour"..
"Very disturbing to watch ... like a fish on shore gulping for air." Inmate's execution takes nearly 2 hours
"An Associated Press reporter who witnessed the execution saw Wood start gasping shortly after a sedative and a pain killer were injected into his veins. He gasped more than 600 times over the next hour and 40 minutes." Arizona inmate dies 2 hours after execution began

Exactly. Anything less says that the victim's lives are of less value.

No I am not. How does being against the death penalty mainly because of botched executions and leading them to be cruel and unusual questions my thoughts on myself?

I didn't say it does, just seemed you looked down on others because of it as if you were perfect. If I am incorrect I apologize.

We are in the top 10 when it comes to executions in the world....

Not killing people means "forsaking the security of millions"?

Thats natrual.

And that matters why? If the diseased among the flock needs removed for the health and safety of the flock, then what do the numbers matter?

If those capable of murder are not ended and the threat permanently removed, then they are always a threat to us all.

Death is also natural. We all die sometime.

That does not negate his argument that it does not happen enough though...

Once you're dead, you can't own anything, and you cant leave your body parts to anyone, so why not let the state put them to use instead of letting them go to waste?

Because a person might not want to do that...

You added emotionless. Maybe you meant impartial? One can be impartial, yet emotional.

That said, many like me, support the DP because it is the right thing to do. Removing a criminal from society helps society and affirms the value of innocent life. These are just facts and there is nothing emotional about it. That said, I can also be emotional if a man murdered my child and said the exact same thing. Perhaps you should refrain from swearing at those you disagree with during an emotional rage so that your argument doesn't sound childish and ill-thought out.

You maybe, but the rest of us are fine with putting murderers down. Look, the guy wasn't tortured and I'm confident this drug lapse wasn't planned.

They basically use anesthesia to put them under before they administer the lethal drug(s).

I had four wisdom teeth cut out at one time and didn't feel a thing till I woke up. Your line of "suffering" is going nowhere.

I don't get it. Those that argue that the DP is horrible are holding the life of the criminal as more important than the life of the victim.

It is actually kind of disgusting.

Criminals are only one piece of the puzzle. Death penalty is part of a system where nobody wants to be left holding the bag when it turns out an innocent man was executed, like Rick Perry and that guy who was arrested for burning his family alive (apparently was probably an accident) which results in burying inquiries and scapegoating.

For bureaucrats and politicians who push ahead with executions that turned out to be mistaken, it's what we call "the career ender."

If you have a system where nobody wants to be held accountable for mistaken judgment, you should probably abolish that system.

that's fine and dandy, but when we have a situation where a person IS guilty, HAS admitted his guilt like in this situation. Sorry I feel nothing for when the state executes someone.
