US working on case against Russia on downed plane

Any cover-up will be futile. Evidence is already there.

"There's a buildup of extraordinary circumstantial evidence," Kerry said. "We picked up the imagery of this launch. We know the trajectory. We know where it came from. We know the timing, and it was exactly at the time that this aircraft disappeared from the radar. We also know from voice identification that the separatists were bragging about shooting it down afterward."

The problem with the US working on any kind of case is they are the same people who said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction....and other such lies. US credibility? D-

Why waste money building a case over something everyone already knows what happened? Plane flew over hostile territory, plane was believed to have been enemy cargo plane and got shot down. What does it matter?

Different scenario here. 10 years of war versus a split second shooting of aircraft. I trust the technology US possesses to detect missile launches.

Whatever, there has to be some kind of official investigation and documented conclusion.

Well actually, there were wmd. They were defunct, of course. But it was up to Saddam to show, what had happened to them. He refused the Security Council resolution to do so.

Here there is a similar situation. Nato certainly saw, what happened. It is up to the participants to explain. One main difference might be here that the plane was downed in a de facto war zone and that in such collateral damage is internationally more or less legal, when it is unintentional.

What would be interesting is, what makes the government think that downing a civil plane in a war zone by mistake is illegal. I really doubt the attackers could tell the difference between MA 7 and a military transport.

My personal view is that the blame should primarily fall to the airline in this case.

I think it was pretty irresponsible of the airline. Also of flight control.

A lot of airliners are using that same corridor to move passengers and goods. The US recommended against it, but most of the world was still using that route.
We went from sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me to safe spaces.
