If you want to speak out, retire and then say whatever you want.
What is your opinion of General Billy Mitchel ?

He described Japans attack on Pearl Harbor to a "T" back in 1925. He walked the plank for doing so.

The vast majority of those serving in the military and WW ll vets sided with MacArthur not Truman.

I could list more than a few dozen company and field grade and flag officers who went public complaining about how the war in Vietnam was being mismanaged/micromanaged and fought.

There are some exceptions, you ever hear of Carlson Raiders of the Marines Raiders of WW ll ? In the late 1940's Brig. Gen. Carlson resigned his commission as a Brig. Gen. so he could testify before Congress to save the Marine Corps and tell Congress that President Truman was one big ****ing ass hole big time.
Truman would confirm it when he fired Gen. MacArthur.

Are we going to be a country ruled by military authority, or a country that is run by a democratically elected president? If you take off the uniform and become a civilian, then I'm fine with that and you are entitled to the rights the constitution affords. And if Gen MacArthur would of had his way, I doubt anyone would be around to tell the tale. Regardless of that, Americans didn't elect MacArthur, and thus had no place in trying to unanimously decide American policy. Are you arguing that the military should launch a coup against the current US Government? Because eventually, that's where this road leads.

And over 500 generals have gone since Obama took over.

This is no accident. Few will want to serve in the United States military again when they know they'll get pink slipped and will, as in Iraq and Afghanistan, have been injured or seen their loved ones die for nothing. It's a modern tragedy on the highest scale.

This guy is retiring and instead of giving the President advise he spews nonsense in public. Sad and cowardly.

Allow me to answer that. I sure as hell am, and have been concerned about the blow back of US policy of supporting militant Islamic groups for decades.

And Americans have a problem with any war that lasted more than a few years and it always takes Americans around twenty years after a war before they get that feeling again to kick some ass.
I'm sorry Apache, obviously we weren't here on this message board at the time, so I can't prove this to you. But its not hindsight for ME, I was a huge outspoken critic of the plans to invade Iraq at the time, and it created quite the caustic work environment at the time, opposing it earned me the label of Taliban John, anti-American, un-patriotic, Muslim lover and more. I was right.

Would you classify them as wins? The Islamists certainly look at them as defeats and point to them as examples of American weakness.

They also know how the American MSM and its followers get bored with war very quickly, will soon turn on their own leaders and military, romanticize those who want to kill them, and eventually change from the reality channel to something quite different. This they do by creating leaders who will tell them the fantasies they want to hear. But, sadly, this is just a temporary respite from the real world and eventually reality rears it's ugly head again. When this happens they will scramble to seek which American is to blame for this latest crisis. Was it a "Fascist"? A "Racist"? An extreme right winger? A neo-con?

It never seems to occur to these people that the problem is actually coming from without and even if they ignore the outside world, the outside world will never ignore them. There are families of those killed over Russia who now understand the reality and horror going on out there and that it has been brought home to them personally.

George Orwell said many insightful things, among them being, ""Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Now President Obama, with the world getting hotter, has given many of these rough men, and their leaders, pink slips. We'll see how that works out.

Yes, respect for Barrack Obama should certainly take priority over his concerns for the security for the country.

So Amos and other brass have always been accepting of their subordinates down the chain of command openly criticizing them in public?
