He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear

I do wonder about the content of those calls those. I'm willing to bet that a majority of those calls are either a) people not really connecting the KKK with those giving out the candy, b) someone who is against illegal immigration but not quite grasping that this group against illegal immigration is the KKK, or c) they are calling to express negativity towards the KKK in some way. I notice that he only says that the telephone number gets 20,000 calls per day, but fails to mention how many of those actually wish to join the KKK or feel positive about the KKK after that call, even if they really are against illegal immigration.

Burning candy, on the other hand, worse.

    Ring a bell ?
You mean the same Southern Conservative Democrats who are now Southern/Conservative Republicans?

I'm not saying your facts are wrong because you're correct. Historically, the KKK was heavily supported by White Southern Conservative Democrats. But over time, those same people shifted their political allegiance to the Conservative/Republican party. These new Southern Conservative Republicans of today may not be as outspoken along racial lines as their former Southern Conservative Democrats were in time's past - many might not even be racist at all - but there's no denying that the KKK was more a Southern Conservative movement than they were strictly Democratic as political affiliations go.

THAT was the drive behind Southern politics up until 1964, not a love of northern democrats but a deep hatred and resentment of the GOP....
And the Grand Ole Party (GOP) was the Democrat party back then. But after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed and Southern Democrats vowed never to vote alongside northern Democrats again, the GOP split and Southern Democrats became Southern Republicans. After a fashion, the Republican Party licked its wounds, made amends, regrouped and now embrace the label of the GOP. But for a time, Southern Conservative Democrats did embrace the KKK. And from the looks of things it would appear that the KKK down in the South (where Conservative Republicans reign) might be trying to rise again. ...

I'll just let this article from the AmericanThinker speak for itself.

Articles: The Party of Big Government

You have to understand one thing about American politics. There is only one major party in this country. It is the Party of Big Government. Democrats are the hardliners while the GOP stands for the more moderate wing.

If you do not believe it, just ask yourself this question: When was the last time Republicans cut anything of substance?

Republicans never really cut. They only grow government. Richard Nixon, Bush 41, Bush 43 were all big government growers. Under Ronald Reagan government grew as well although at a slower pace. That's a fact, which we would all do well to ponder.
Naw...I can't let that stand on its own. You so-call limited government cooks need more convincing. So, there's this from the Cato Institute covering the early years of the GWB Administration...spending was well under control back then wasn't it?

Even before the release of the new federal budget, President Bush’s budget chief Josh Bolten has begun the damage control. On one flank, the president is trying to ward off the increasing despair in his conservative base caused by his huge spending increases and big deficits. On another flank, the mainstream media are beginning to run front-page stories on the administration’s fiscal irresponsibility.

    ...

Bolten argues that the president (GW Bush) hasn’t vetoed a single spending bill because “he hasn’t needed to.” It’s more likely that the president hasn’t vetoed any spending bills because he hasn’t wanted to. Each spending bill that has come to his desk has represented a new vote-buying opportunity, whether it was the big education bill in 2001, the big farm bill in 2002, or the even bigger Medicare prescription drug bill in 2003.
And how about this one for those who continue to argue over federal employees in relation to the size of big federal government.

Big Government? Obama Has 273,000 Fewer Federal Employees Than Reagan | Politicus USA's Archives

Every single Republican today talks about being a Reagan conservative. This is a conservative that believes in small government, reducing federal spending and ultimately runs a lean and mean government. They talk about this stuff in campaigns, but in practice they failed miserably.

In fact HISTORICALLY, it is has been Democratic presidents who have reduced the size of the federal government.
Fact is the only Republicans seem to limit when in power is the ability for the other side to get anything of substance done.

Now that that's done, we can get back to talking about how irrelevant the KKK is these days. ...
