Judge throws out Florida's congressional map[W:40]

TALLAHASSEE -- A judge threw out Florida’s congressional redistricting map Thursday, ruling that the Legislature allowed for a “secret, organized campaign” by partisan operatives to subvert the redistricting process in violation of the state Constitution.
    Oops. Florida again. LOL.

He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear

Gerrymandering - the fundamental key to progressiveism. If you can't beat em' draw a line.

Good, I think when it comes to redistricting a simple rule should apply. Counties should remain whole as much as possible. If Florida has 27 congressional districts, no more than 14 counties should have to be divided between districts. All the rest should be able to remain whole.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

That would be somewhat difficult, in that some counties have loads of people, while others have relatively few. What I would like to see is districts conforming as much as possible to a rectangular shape.

Note really, Miami and Dade county has approximately 2.5 million people. The average size of a congressional district is approximately 700,000 people. So give Date county 3 CD's. That's 2.1 million. Broward County is the next one up, it has approximately 1.8 million. Add the northern portion of Dade to Broward that gives you 2.2 million and 3 more CD's or 6 CD's with a 100,000 left over. If give the county and its population I could sit here and draw up 27 CD's out of Florida's 67 counties and I guarantee you I will have not more than 14 counties divided between congressional districts. With just what I proposed I would have 65 counties to carve out the remaining 21 CD's and I haven't even counted the Tampa/St. Pete or Jacksonville areas.

If I can do it with a stubby pencil probably in less than an hour if I had all the population figures, it should be easily done via computer in far less time. But by keeping as many counties whole as possible, that does away with gerrymandering to keep certain representatives safe.

LOL, another substance free knock at Florida. Funniest part is just about every state that doesn't have an amendment forbidding the practice uses secret, organized campaigns of partisan operatives to draw their districts.

Take a look at Maryland's districts, one of the most gerrymandered states in the union.
