I seriously think he just assumed it was Democrats doing it. Because Democrats bad.

In 2012, Democrats received 1.4 million more votes in the House of Representatives than Republicans did. Republicans somehow got a 33 seat advantage. You want to tell me it's progressives doing all that terrible gerrymandering?

And then there is the problem with Democratic cities like Atlanta he fails to mention.
Where Democratic votes are concentrated at 80% levels compared to say Cantor's 57%.

What I would like to see is districts conforming as much as possible to a rectangular shape.
Your Texas has led the Nation in recent history with GM--starting with their abomination of a remap in 1990.
    36 CDs and 27 are Republican--so 75% of Texas's population is GOP ?

Technically its both. In the case of Florida, they worked together to ensure some democrats and minority areas were ensured a win, in return for putting all the conservatives in their own district. A democrat is even complaining about this ruling because it might make her district tougher given they made her district almost entirely made up of african-americans. However, I dont see the problem. This way ensures that minorities get a representative, whereas if each district had representative portions of voters, they would all be white.

I dont really see how you do it any different. Whats fair?

You, uh, do realize that it's the Florida GOP that's getting busted for gerrymandering? Or is the Republican party now "progressive?"

Simple...what is fair, is not having a political aspect involved in defining districts. There should be only condition for any district.. population. Make up of that population is irrelevant. A district can be huge or small geography wise... it is irrelevant. It is the population size that matters. It would also mean you get rid of the crazy districts what twist and turn to meet some warped conditions on race and party affiliation. All districts should be as square or rectangular as possible.

If you really want to be seen as a nation where race or ethnicity does not matter, then THIS is what you have to do.

1.4 million fewer votes and holding a 33 seat lead in the House would indicate that Republicans are better at it.

rural districts have fewer people in them then the big city districts. republicans win more of the rural districts, democrats win more of the big city districts. that's your difference.
