I think that Germany has just pointed the way. They have canceled a large contract with Verizon. So tat for the tit and inspect every piece of machinery, automobile and everything individually at point of import.

A country that does not enforce international security does not need spies as much as one whose treasure and the lives of its kids are on the line. Sure Germany does not understand the requirements. They have been free riding the American safety net.

PS: Germany has employed its secret service in the last couple of years in one case, where they did industrial espionage in Switzerland to acquire data about its citizens.

Well no, that wasn't my point. Another poster drew attention to Germany supplying dictators with spyware. They aren't the only ones that do that.

Of course they aren't. They are also not the only ones that supplied Syria with the means to manufacture the chemical weapons that the US are now trying to destroy nor the only suppliers to Iran's atomic weapons program. And even in the case of Auschwitz in the Sand they had cosuppliers, I am sure. Also the were not alone in siding with Saddam. But nobody had said that.

Ok, so are you a supporter of "democracies" supply spyware to dictators, or not?

In general no. There are situations imaginable, where spyware could be the better way to go.

Well apparently that's the way Germany feels about it. Though if humanitarianism was more than facade, no dictator would ever receive such aid.

You think siding with Stalin in ww2 was like selling nuclear technology to Iran in the 90s? I don't.
