China thinks it can defeat America in battle

I think we are looking at a "mutually assured destruction" situation if we ever go to war with China. There would be only losers.

When you are weak project strength. When you are are strong feign weakness.

Let them think whatever they'd like.

Correct.

Anyone who thinks that the USA won't be the first country to use nukes should check with Japan.

The USA came mighty close to launching a first strike back during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

The US may be able to win a battle, especially at sea, but on land and even in the air and an overall war... nope. Reason... China 1.5 billion people, USA 320 million.

But saying that, China has zero reason to invade Taiwan. Why? There is tons of business going both ways and it would cost the Chinese economy billions if they did so.

Bodies aren't going to win conflict like this. We can stop the entire Chinese Army using nothing more than high altitude bombers dropping smart bombs. Throw 500,000,000 foot soldiers onto the field of battle and all you do is lose them. Send in Chinese tanks and you get scrap metal. Send in the Chinese Air Force and you have Chinese fireworks. We can sustain complete air and land superiority through our air craft carriers and long range high altitude bombers. We can cripple China's manufacturing infrastructure with targeted strikes on a dozen or so hydroelectric dams, causing massive damage to both their power generation capacity, their agriculture (loss of irrigation water) and the damage that the ensuing flooding would cause. We would have their satellite communications terminated within a matter of a few hours, their landlines crippled about as fast (high-altitude bombers dropping smart bombs on transmission hubs). Sorry folks, but a war with China has ONE outcome and that is that China loses. This isn't patriotism, nationalism, or any other 'ism", it's simple facts. We are FAR ahead of the Chinese in military tech and in a fight with us, they have no chance of winning.

No, China would win. We are constrained by lawyers and politicians in how we would wage war. They wouldn't be. We lose.

You forgot to mention Obama would also purge the rest of the remaining high ranking military officers who disagreed with him over the issue.

An old fashioned military battle between the US and China? Not going to happen, and a darned good thing. Imagine two nuclear powers, one with over a billion people, in a knock down drag out war! It would set civilization back centuries.

No, the real battle is economic, and China definitely has the upper hand currently.

We control the economic battle as well. We can cripple the Chinese economy with one simple act - stop making payments on our debt to them. We can find other sources for the goods China provides, but they aren't going to find anyone that will keep their economy floating with the cash that our debt payments provides.

Right, but I believe that China would be a lot more glassified than the USA.

I'm sure the aliens can measure the piles of rubble when they arrive to find us living in the Second Stone Age and they can declare the winner.

And still champion of the world.

Correct.

The US wouldn't have nuked Cuba, it's too close to the US mainland. They could have taken down their nukes with conventional weapons.

They also wouldn't have nuked Russia while nukes were in Cuba either, unless Russia/Cuba fired the first shot.

Wrong. You have no idea how close the USA was to launching a first strike on the USSR.

Wow, so many armchair military analysts with such keen insight.

That was sarcasm for anyone that didn't pick up on it.

If you still haven't picked up on the level of sarcasm intended let's just say that if you could see what I thought of your analysis of this topic you'd see me making the mock stroking the male genitalia gesture.

That being said, a war between two nations such as ours and China would produce no winners but rather two regretful nations.

Wrong. You have no idea how close the USA was to launching a first strike on the USSR.

You can argue all day who was closest to firing the first shot but the point is moot because it never happened.

In addition to the U-2 shot down over Cuba, another American U-2 on a routine air sampling mission to the North Pole blundered into Soviet air space. The Soviets sent up MIG fighters to try to shoot the intruder down; the Alaska Air Defense Command responded by scrambling nuclear-armed F-102 interceptors. In the Caribbean, a frazzled Soviet submarine commander considered firing his nuclear torpedo against United States destroyers attempting to bring him to the surface.

In the meantime, Soviet troops brought nuclear-tipped cruise missiles to the periphery of the Guantánamo naval base, and transported nuclear warheads to the medium-range missile sites at Sagua La Grande in central Cuba. Convinced that an attack by the United States was imminent, Castro urged Khrushchev to consider a nuclear first strike against the United States.

I don't think so.

I believe that the USA would make the Chinese sorry that they were ever born.

Lets wait and see what happens. I'd like to see at least one nuclear war before I die.

It really depends who is in charge. There isn't a chance in Hell this president would assist Taiwan in any meaningful way.

Obama isn't going to try and stop them, so they won't get the chance to find out.

You're partly right. We would need a declaration of war from this do nothing congress, and we know the congress will bend over backwards not to support Obama in any way. Even if that means destroying the country.

As if Obama would seek a declaration of war, not that he needs one.

You're right, because he knows the GOP in congress won't approve any action.

They won't have to, because he won't ask them to. However, he still has The War Powers Act.

The USA has 5, 113 nuclear weapons and it could utterly destroy China and any other country on this planet.

Tell the Chinese to bring it on, we've got something for them.

shrubnose, are you being intentionally provocative here, adding some spice to the thread, or inviting nuclear war with China. Victory in that might come, but the cost to Iraq, substantial as its been thus far is a drop in the bucket by comparison!

Presidents fire generals they disagree with.

Talk about being right. Try to challenge him instead of just dismissing his opinion. If you can.

What's there that he's right about? Obama is not out to destroy this country and he isn't a super secret Muslim. You and him are no better than any other truther that claimed Bush was behind 9/11. Some on the right have a severe case of Obama Deranged Syndrome and need some serious help. Is Obama a lousy president? Yes, I will agree there. Is he purposely trying to destroy America? No, he is not.

Yes, calling it hyperbole was SPOT ON!
