Driver records CHP officer punching woman[W:195]

Re: Driver records CHP officer punching woman

Police officer practicing his MMA skills on a woman.

Just wait - there will be people on this forum rushing to the defense of this thug. Count on it.

I'm surprised we haven't heard them yet. They must be bust on another thread criticizing Obama for something.

Yeah, this sure looks like excessive force. Jesus.

Every police officer ought to have a video on him. When are we going to wise up?

Re: Driver records CHP officer punching woman

It looked to me that he was trying to keep her out of traffic for her safety. It is entirely plausible that she was "out of her senses", so to speak. Even some level of force might have been necessary. All of that I can buy. No problem, so far.

I do not, however, see nor can I imagine any reason for the face punching.

Don't insult MMA by comparing it to this guy.

Re: Driver records CHP officer punching woman

That's way overkill.

There are plenty of good officers.

The problem is that finding the bad involves investigating all, and they're basically the investigators (in some cases).

Edit: There's also the whole question/subject of job stress and it's impact on officers. I would bet you that some good officers have "snapped" and done something bad. I can only imagine how stressful a police officer's job is.

The problem is that preventing such requires good mental health care, and in many cases the culture of a police department (and indeed, the country) does not really support that.

What? Do you mean most are good? In my own personal Latino experience most of em are pieces of ****. Are you white per chance or have some statistic? Just wondering, personal experience can be misleading.

I said "plenty", not most.

I myself am white (edit: VERY white - I'm pale even though it's summer - of course working indoors and not being awake much during the day probably helps), and my only experience with police has been after an accident or when stopped for some traffic violation earlier in life. Some of the officers struck me as assholes, but beyond that...

Obviously I realize my experiences would not have placed me in a situation to see the potential bad, but that doesn't mean your experiences are an accurate picture either. Personal experience is very rarely the whole picture.

That was probably meant for his wife!

.
That's bull****. When the "bad" are investigated the police chief just gives them the all-clear. Or just record them on camera behaving badly.

Well that explains, unfortunately.

I already posted some links on the difference in how police treat their own kind and those that aren't.

That was kinda my point, actually.

That said, it's highly situational - some cities will have mostly good police forces, others a more even distribution, and some few will be mostly bad.

Part of that is due to leadership, of course.

What happened before the video started? Do we know?

It'd have to be something fairly extreme to justify punching someone you're sitting on in the face.

Kinda need to know, before condemning the guy as a racist. I know folks can't help themselves, but those of us with more common sense know better.

Just for fun, can you come up with a plausible scenario that would justify the face punching?

We know it'll be made up and won't hold you to it.

This could have been a confrontation that, for whatever reason, got very emotional. By walking off the way she did, she was resisting. She was obviously fighting back when he took her down. She might have assaulted him, before she started walking off. How do we know either way?

We only saw a few seconds of what could have been going on for several minutes. A few seconds isn't enough to say for sure what went down. Have we even heard his side of the story, yet? Or are we just going to go on a few seconds of video?

Everything you said could have happened. Nothing you said would justify repeated punching in the face, especially after she's already down.

Take two?

Wait, wait, back up.

Who was accusing this guy of being racist? Why is race involved at all?

He was sitting on someone punching their face. That right there is reason enough to question the event, without even trying to apply racial over/undertones to the matter.

If she's resisting and the situation is already emotionally charged, it may not be justified, but it would be understandable. However, to say there's no way it could be justified, is quite naïve, IMO.

Right here...

And, I mean, there's only 24 posts in this thread, so just wait. I think we both know that.

That has nothing to do with it. It doesn't matter what color the lady was, she was beaten by this cop and he should be held accountable.
