How about this... The public didn't complain about the name at all, but the government decided to act in the name of political correctness to fix a problen that didn't even exist... Good Lord...

Patent office didn’t receive a single public complaint before stripping Redskins trademark
By Jim McElhattonThe Washington Times
Tuesday, July 1, 2014

The recent decision by an obscure administrative law board to cancel the Washington Redskins‘ trademark registrations came despite the fact the agency hadn’t received a single letter from a member of the public complaining about the team’s name, records show.

The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, which is part of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, ruled last month that the name was disparaging to American Indians. The team is appealing that decision.

Politicians, including President Obama, have waded into the team name controversy, with many saying the team should change its name. But despite widespread media attention and a legal fight that goes back more than a decade, the USPTO recently acknowledged there’s hardly been an avalanche of public complaints filed with the agency.

In fact, the agency doesn’t have any record of correspondence from the public about the Redskins‘ name — expressing sentiments one way or another — prior to the board’s June 18 ruling.

Re: Patent office didn't receive single public complaint before stripping Redskins tr

It's a vast left wing conspiracy.

It's a vast left wing conspiracy.

Do tell. If no complaint were received, what would you call such overreach?

Re: Patent office didn't receive single public complaint before stripping Redskins tr

It's a vast left wing conspiracy.

It never seizes to amaze me, how so many on the left employ the same deflection tactics when responding to threads that portray their ideology negatively, and can't seem to bring themselves to address the facts.

I suppose achieving denial through distraction is an important, if not necessary ideological skill to master.

I'm not at all surprised. The only ones who were offended by it were the partisans on here and elsewhere, and Harry Reid.

God bless America.

I'd like the most transparent regime ever to tell us who initiated this action so they could be fired. As one who is part Indian I'm offended my heritage might be removed from recognition in the NFL.

Just because I don't root for the redskins doesn't mean I want my heritage disparaged by removing this name from it's 80 year tradition.

Now go Raiders! Yes I had a pirate heritage too!

Oh? Really? Well that settles it, then. That one guy on the internet said he wants to keep the name! Call it off guys!

Re: Patent office didn't receive single public complaint before stripping Redskins tr

It's the overreach that is concerning. Next overreach may not be one of which you personally approve/are willing to overlook.

Who's deflecting?

There was a complaint brought by Native American activists. It was addressed. You don't like how it was addressed, so to you it IS a vast conspiracy.

Trademark, not copyright. I wonder when they will drop the rest.

Overreaches happen with each administration. Many on the right "say" they complained about Bush, yet they voted him twice. The same left that complained about Bush's overreaches, have essentially given Obama a free pass since they voted him in twice.

Both sides are responsible because they don't REALLY hold their politicians accountable. They give lip service, but when the time comes to hold their politicians's feet to the fire, they wimp out and still vote them in. Hence why the duopoly of the Dem/Reps is one of the most corrupt things in this country.

And it might be one of which you personally do approve. At which point you won't be talking about how "concerning" it is.

A vast left wing conspiracy. Communism is just around the corner, dogs and cats will be living in sin....

No, that's commenting on conservatives reaction to the news, not on the topic.

Pointing out factual inaccuracies of your argument is on topic, Grimmy. You can respond to that instead!

Certainly it is... But that isn't what he did.

Thanks for playing though.

I'd love to see the outrage if the government told the NAACP they had to change their name because "Colored People" was offensive to the black community.

Re: Patent office didn't receive single public complaint before stripping Redskins tr

I'll bet you there are 5 native Americans that are happy they call the team the Redskins. I'd also bet if those 5 who complained got money out of their court complaint they'd be happy too....their b & m wasn't about the name is what a want for money.

I'd just like to know who is the bureacrat that made the decision so he / she could be fired as they should be.

Re: Patent office didn't receive single public complaint before stripping Redskins tr

This issue is a prime example of how liberals create distractions by trumping up non-issues in order to avoid dealing with their true failings. Obama is a master at it.

Look at the shiny object in the sky and ignore the sharks circling you underneath.

Here's what former Redskins Quarterback and Super Bowl winner Joe Theismann had to say about this controversy:

I know where it wouldn't be coming from....
