President Barack Obama said Monday he was starting "a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, without Congress," adding that he directed his team to recommend steps he can take this summer and that he would then act on those steps "without delay."[Original story moved at 2:48 p.m. ET]
President Barack Obama plans to take executive action on immigration reform after House Speaker John Boehner told him last week the House won't vote on a comprehensive bill this year, a White House official said.
Obama will make a statement on immigration at the White House later Monday to announce some steps, including a request for emergency funds as the United States grapples with a surge of undocumented children and adults crossing the border from Mexico.
According to the official, Obama will order a shift in security resources to border regions and call for additional action he can take "without Congress but within his existing authorities to fix as much of our broken immigration system as we can."

yep can't for the lawsuit and the 9-0 unconstitutional ruling for the supreme court as well.

How was this guy a constitutional lawyer again? there is no way he was a constitutional lawyer. no wonder he won't release he college record people would see the C's and D's he got in law school.

The president doesn't have power to make or change law.
where is the vote for removal from office at.

Obama is not king not matter how much he thinks he is.

Hope Obama doesn't say "enough is enough" about the right to vote.

Time to define the power of EOs, folks. Past time.

It's already defined in the constitution. he obviously doesn't know what that is.

this is exactly why all these kids and their families are flocking to the US.
He says not to bring them that they won't be accepted lol yet goes and does this.

Boehner said he can't get it done. It needs to be done. Obama should press forward and let the chips fall where they're going to fall. If the Supreme Court slaps him down, then that's how it's going to be. At least he tried.

sorry the president isn't above the law. the constitution is there for a reason. we are a land of laws not do what the hell you want and hope you don't get caught.
The should nix this before it even starts.

He has no more power to change immigration law than the man and the moon exists.

we have 11m people living here that don't belong here and consume more resources than they give back.
Our stupid govenor just signed a bill allowing undocumented kids to get the same tuition rates as legal kids which means less money for kids legally allowed in the US.

why? it's election year and he is trying to be the last dirt bag that lost.

Tell that to nanny state Nancy "I want to bring all the children home with me" Pelosi.

As long as the president enforces existing laws, whatever he does is within the law such as moving resources around, I don't have a problem with it. If the phrase "as I can on my own," means within existing law, what is the problem? If it means creating his own laws then he has overstepped. In our system congress writes the laws, the administration enforces them.

Ya know, I listened to Obama say he was going to take his latest Executive Action because the Tea Party wouldn't let Boehner vote on the wonderful Senate Immigration Bill.
And what he said he was going to do was send personnel to manage the border.
So I wondered why he needs another bill to make him enforce the border when we already have laws that require him to do that very thing.
Then I realized he was playing with words again.
He didn't mean he was taking E.A. to enforce the border, he meant he was going to send more people to process all those kids.
Just like he had planned from the beginning of the year.

Say what you will, he's a scumbag all right, but he's the most proficiently lying scumbag President we've ever had.

Supposedly the United States is a nation of laws. The congress writes them, the administration enforces them. As long as the president stays within the frame of existing laws as written and what he does is not prohibited by them or the constitution he can pretty much do as he wants. If he steps over that line, that could be considered a high crime. We'll just have to wait and see what the president has in mind.

This is tough because I agree with both sides on this.

There should be laws that go through Congress. I agree. However, the current bunch of chumps there won't do anything about it.

Tried?

He is a rather "trying" individual at times..

Having far more existential and observational experience on our southern border than our administration, and considering the admins history, I cannot expect anything positive from his declaration.

BUT, I will wait to hear his grand plan before possibly beginning a tirade of run-on sentences and never ending paragraphs.

The gentleman is pushing limits.

He doesn't live and maybe has never visited our southern border (save for his ASU politicing)

We will see what we will see.

The outlook isn't brilliant for the Sonoran

Smile anyway, it confuses people

Thom Paine.

All laws should go through Congress - that is why we have a Congress.

What? says who? you.....
Basic logic. Executive orders are limited in their scope and nature. They do not apply to everyone or cannot be used on everything at will.

That action is the very definition of dictatorship.
No its not.

You do realize the US is not a dictatorship?

Furthermore I love how progressives argue against voter ID laws yet have no problem with Obama using executive orders while trumping their representation.....

It seems that one man's dictator is another man's effective leader.

For example, the folks who are whining, "Dictator! Dictator!," have no real big problem with the GOP dominated congress that dictates a stagnant, filibustering, stonewalling agenda that dictates that the sitting president is unable to carry out any and all measures he was voted into office to do and carry out the majority will of America, who voted him into office, twice.

It's kinda weak if you ask me but whatever. Myself, I'm glad to see Obama growing a nutsack and telling these obstructionists to take a hike. It's long overdue.

Just my two-cents though.

All laws should go through Congress - that is why we have a Congress.

When Congress passes laws, yes. The partisan gridlock in the Capitol is strangling us as a nation. I halfway hope that the GOP does win control of the Senate in November because it's probably our only hope of actually getting something passed. It may get vetoed, but that is part of the process.

No its not.

Executive orders don't apply to everyone????? that sounds like affirmative action....

Using your logic (which I don't agree with) progressives are even more fascist then I thought.

The problem is this obviously insignificant little thing to Obama, called the Constitution.

Just because he wants something done a certain way, doesn't mean that he gets to have it his way.

He keeps saying that a law needs to be passed to solve the immigration problem... but that law (or actually laws) already exists.

Just one, and this is a big one, is the Simpson-Mazzoli Act of 1986. In that law, which was signed by Reagan, almost all of what Obama just said on TV needed to be made law... already is... in this very law.

It made hiring illegals... illegal.

It made transporting illegals... illegal.

It required what is now known as e-Verify... for all companies in the US.

It required the Attorney General to prosecute... all immigration law breakers, including employers.

It required the border to be secured, and required the President to do so.

The problem is, that once the Democrats that controlled Congress during that time period, got their amnesty, they "defunded" the remainder of the law so that the President could not do those parts, like employer mandate to verify legal status, investigate and prosecute employers of illegal aliens, secure the border or any other part... other than the amnesty.

And, that's partly why, right now, the Republicans don't want amnesty, and do not trust the Democrats to fulfill any other parts of any other law. That... and the laws already exist to do EVERYTHING he said he wanted a law to state - except amnesty for those that are here now. And, that's what this all comes down to... AMNESTY, since everything else is already in current laws and all he has to do is follow the law and enforce them.

Again, all he has to do, is actually enforce the law. The law that's already on the books. Except amnesty, that is.

See? Problem solved. Just enforce the laws that already exist, and then we can have a debate about Amnesty without all the BS political spin from both sides.
