It's more than that. The last couple of months feel like a chapter out of 1984 or something.

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama asked Congress Thursday for $500 million to train and arm vetted members of the Syrian opposition, as the U.S. struggles for a way to stem a civil war that has also fueled the al-Qaida inspired insurgency in neighboring Iraq.

The military training program would deepen the Obama administration's involvement in the more than four-year conflict between rebels and forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad. If approved by Congress, the program would supplement a covert train-and-assistance program run by U.S. intelligence agencies.

The Syria program is part of a broader $65.8 billion overseas operations request that the administration sent to Congress Thursday. The package includes $1 billion to help stabilize nations bordering Syria that are struggling with the effects of the civil war. It also formalizes a request for a previously announced $1 billion to strengthen the U.S. military presence in Central and Eastern Europe amid Russia's threatening moves in Ukraine.

WTH? He really doesn't have a clue.
It seems to me that Assad is about the only person who could manage a stable Syria, that quite a lot of the rebels he is fight is AQ and ISIS in Syria. Assad has used his Air Force to bomb ISIS to help Miliki and the good old USA in Iraq. Just when I thought things could get more confusing in the ME, it does.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

The time to help the Syrian rebels has long since passed. It's too late now.

It's well past time that the American people began asking themselves whose side this guy is on.
This administration's foreign policy is a tragedy of epic proportions for which we, as a country, will be paying possibly the next 100 years. Those people have zero awareness of history, foreign cultures. and myriad other facets of geo-politics; all the while dancing, prancing, and posturing an ego-maniacal vision of their own perfections of how they can make the world the way they believe it should be.

The Presidency is a tough and ugly job; he said he had the answers. Well, maybe he does have answers...if, so they are to very different and the wrong questions.

Of course president Assad is a stabilising force in Syria, just as Saddam was in Iraq and Gaddafi was in Libya. Quite literally, US foreign policy which clearly transcends presidencies, is to destabilise the ME, or for a very long time our country has been run by complete morons from both parties. Take your pick Pero, but the US (with a little help from our friends) has ****ed the ME all up!

What could you possibly mean by that?? The US and other Western countries have been helping the rebels (read insurgents, al Qaeda, al Nusra, and other terrorist groups) from jump street! Regime change for Syria has been a US foreign policy ambition for at least two decades.

For the record, I was against Libya, against Iraq and for Afghanistan. That is the initial war in Afghanistan, not nation building. It looked like in the original war they took a page out of one of the wars I was in, Laos. Air power with but a very few Americans on the ground letting the locals do the ground fighting. With Afghanistan it worked perfectly as the Northern Alliance was able to drive the Taliban and AQ out of their country. I do not think a single American life was lost up to that point and then this stupid nation building began.

With Iraq, I am almost to the point of just throwing up my hands. The whole situation makes no sense. I am more in favor these days to just let it play out however it plays out and not get involved at all. We are backing Miliki, Iran which we do not want to get nukes and is considered enemies of us is helping Miliki, Assad which we want to overthrow is bombing ISIS and helping us as we try to overthrow him. Our allies, Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar are supporting ISIS financially and AQ kicked out ISIS out of their organization and seem, at this point anyway to be willing to help Miliki. Have I about covered this?

Oh, now we want to spend 500 million to arm and train the rebels in Syria among which is ISIS, AQ and a few more to overthrow Assad who is actually helping us out in Iraq and the only hope for a stable Syria. As I told someone last night, please bring back the cold war when it was just us vs. them. That I could handle.

He is still voting 'present' and dispensing the usual bromides. It's surreal, isn't it?

It is a tragedy, but if America was to get a strong leadership for four successive terms I think the country could be turned around. The real problem is there is always that 30 something percent who continue to believe and will vote left no matter how great their foreign and fiscal disasters, and will defend the obvious corruption as well. The left also has the irresponsible MSM.

That's very frustrating for honest people who genuinely want to do the best for their country.
