Madison — Prosecutors allege Gov. Scott Walker was at the center of an effort to illegally coordinate fundraising among conservative groups to help his campaign and those of Republican state senators fend off recall elections during 2011 and '12, according to documents unsealed Thursday.

This is a major political bombshell. Looks like Governor Walker, who is considering a presidential run in 2016, is about to be indicted for corruption. But let me put a little wrinkle in this:

What is a felony in Wisconsin is perfectly legal in many other states, which begs the question..... Does Walker really deserve to go to prison over this? And this begs yet another question.... Is this investigation politically motivated?

Discussion?

Yet another witch hunt... Walker handed the Dems. one of their biggest defeats and they will do anything to attack him. My guess is that this will end up in the same trash heap as the other false allegations against Walker.

The evidence shows that Walker broke the law. Does freedom of speech extend to freedom to break the law? On the other hand, as I already brought up, Walker's lawbreaking in Wisconsin is not lawbreaking in a number of other states. So what does this do to the concept of "equal treatment under the law"? Should this become a Federal issue, or does states rights apply here?

The evidence doesn't support it, the accusations do. So far, the evidence is piss -poor and well refuted by Walkers people.

The immediate answer to this is yes, if he broke the law he should face the justice system. The long-term answer is that he could possibly appeal this far enough to a SCOTUS ruling that could go in his favor, but no matter what his 2016 run is over at this point before it begins if he broke the state law.

I have long said, "Just wait until the John Doe investigation is over." Walker is so crooked he has to screw his shoes on every morning when he wakes up.

But, then again, that pretty much qualifies him to become a president.

That's not what the prosecutors say, or what the documents, which show a paper trail, reveal. Do you have a credible link to something different?

All this says to me is that the dems consider Walker a credible presidential candidate for 2016 and thus a threat to be neutralized/sleazed.

How about using a little logic, instead of ranting that it's all the Democrats' fault? There is smoking gun paperwork which catches Walker dead to rights. However, there are 2 ways that Walker can beat this, because, as you should well know, not every law is a good law. In fact, the laws that Walker broke were passed during Democratic administrations in Wisconsin. Were they afraid that big money could beat them, and so passed these laws? Here are the 2 ways Walker can beat the charges:

1) First Amendment - This is what Walker's legal team is pushing now, and in light of the Citizens' United decision, it could very well work, by declaring Wisconsin's law against outside money and coordination unconstitutional.

2) There is yet another way Walker can beat this, which involves the 14th Amendment. What Walker did is perfectly legal in several states, which brings up the idea of "equal protection". In Federal court, Walker's legal team can argue that he has been denied equal protection, since what he did, although illegal in Wisconsin, is legal elsewhere.

This is not a witch hunt. The prosecutors are doing their job, and they have proof that Walker did what they are saying he did. However, is the law they are going after Walker on Constitutional? This is where the fight is, and this is where Walker could come out on top. Actually, I would say that the odds are in Walker's favor.

Does Walker really deserve to go to prison over this? I don't think so.

And this begs yet another question.... Is this investigation politically motivated? Oh hell yes.

It is a BS case brought by crybaby losers. Nothing more. This just makes the Dems and prosecution look like morons when they nit-pick over this crap. Get over it, YOU LOST TWICE.

I'm from WI and could care less if Conservative groups helped Walker's recall election. Seems as though it was fair. Sounds like a very thin line. I don't mind Walker, but I'm guessing the unions are still pissed and funding this moronic cause.

All potential 2016 Republican who may run against Hillary must be added to some legal issue - real or not.

A one sentence post is hardly a rant. No need to go into your own rant just because I struck on what you know is the likely truth of it.

Yet another witch hunt...
When it's a Republican.
Walker handed the Dems. one of their biggest defeats and they will do anything to attack him.
He broke the law--where are the "select committees"?
My guess is that this will end up in the same trash heap as the other false allegations against Walker.
In the Midwest, we send our crooked governors to jail, as in Illinois with the last two--one DEM and one GOP >

Very Real--since he clearly broke the law--as dana pointed out--no liberal.
And as he pointed out how Walker may wiggle out--by getting the law ruled unconstitutional .

Nice that you quoted only the first sentence, in order to try and convince others that this was just a rant. I think my response was quite well thought out, and actually in Walker's favor. So I am going to post what you cut off from my last post again, Mr. O'Keefe:

The equal protection defense is a no-go. It won't work because states have always had laws that differ from state to state. They don't infringe on equal protection because they apply to everyone's actions in that state. It doesn't matter who you are, or what state you reside in; If you engage in the prohibited behavior in that state, you have broken the law.

Hmmm, sounds familiar, ever since 2008.

got laws ?

In Wisconsin? :lamo

they don't circumvent laws here, they re-legislate their way around them.

* mining legislation in Northern Wisconsin.

No, the recall election has come and gone.

Then there is still the First Amendment argument, which is what Walker's legal team brought up that led to the unveiling of the secret documents. According to Citizens' United, money is speech. It may very well apply here.

smells like grasping for political straws. i find Walker to be the kind of idiot whose actions actively harm the average working American, but i hate this political witch hunt **** even more. everybody is doing this slimy funding stuff because we actively encourage rich people to buy our government. there might be a couple elected politicians who don't, but they are in the vast, vast minority.

folks on both sides, this is what gerrymandering, allowing the entities with money to buy the government, and extreme partisan attitudes are doing to your country. ask yourself if you're really ok with that.

I quoted only the first sentence because I was sheltering you from your own hypocritical accusation. But I see you doubled down with another rant.

This is indeed a politically motivated witch hunt. We know this because he is up for re-election this November, and the dems are desperate to regain the state.

All I did was present a valid link to the article, and then articulated 2 ways in which Walker could beat the charges. If you saw anything else in my post, then you are hallucinating.
