KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and Joe

Re: KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and

This story is a good example of why "breaking news" stories need to be validated/verified before one draws a conclusion. It seems reporters are rushing to grab a headline or sound bite. The heck with verify facts.

Like someone else said, the investigation is still on going.

Re: KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and

KFC had 2 investigations that both showed this never happened.

KFC: No Proof Worker Asked Scarred Child to Leave - ABC News

Fried chicken chain KFC said two different investigations have not found any evidence that an employee asked a 3-year-old girl and family members to leave because injuries she suffered in a pit bull mauling disturbed customers.

KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said Tuesday the company considered the matter closed after an internal investigation by the franchise restaurant in Jackson and an independent probe. Maynard said the company would honor its commitment to donate $30,000 to help with medical bills for Victoria Wilcher.

"Like the rest of America, the KFC family has been moved by the story of Victoria's injuries and recovery," Maynard said. "We hope everyone keeps Victoria in their thoughts and prayers. She will certainly be in ours."

Allegations that Victoria was asked to leave the restaurant were made earlier this month on the Facebook site Victoria's Victories, which has followed her recovery from the April attack.

In a statement, Hannon Food Services, which operates the restaurant, said the company was deeply troubled by the allegation.

As part of its investigation, Hannon said it spent hundreds of hours reviewing surveillance video, interviewing employees and hired the outside investigator. The company said it would reach out to the child's family for additional discussions.

Jackson attorney Bill Kellum, in a statement Tuesday afternoon on behalf of the child's family, said Victoria's grandmother, Kelly Mullins, stands by her claim of what happened at the restaurant.

"Victoria's family appreciates the actions of KFC in their investigation of this matter. They look forward to assisting KFC in what we hope will be an ongoing investigation," he said.

"It is deeply disappointing that other parties have taken opportunity to attack Victoria through social and news media outlets. Victoria is an innocent child with very real physical and emotional scars. The focus of her family has always been, and will always be on Victoria and making her whole again," Kellum said.

He said the child's family is grateful for outpouring of concern for her.

After the initial allegation, KFC posted an apology the next morning and asked for more details about what happened.

Teri Rials Bates, the child's aunt, runs the Victoria's Victories Facebook page.

"I promise it's not a hoax, I never thought any of this would blow up the way it has," a post said early Tuesday. "I have personally watched this family go without to provide for Victoria. They have not and would not do anything to hurt Victoria in any way."

No one responded to a message sent through the Facebook page.

Earlier, the child's grandmother, Kelly Mullins, told Jackson television station WAPT-TV that the child had just been to a doctor and stopped at the restaurant. After they ordered, an employee approached, she said.

"They just told us, they said, 'We have to ask you to leave because her face is disrupting our customers,'" Mullins told the TV station.

In her posts, Bates said the child was attacked by three pit bulls while visiting her grandfather at his home south of Jackson. Since April, she has undergone reconstructive surgery, Bates said.

So grandma is sticking by her story. I wonder how far she'll take this.

Granny took the Facebook page down yesterday, and GoFundMe announced they were suspending the donations page pending an investigation. Last I heard the GoFundMe page had over $135,000 in donations.

Re: KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and

Yea, whoever started that hoax needs to end up looking like that child, via a serious ass kicking. LOL.
Yeah, those KFC workers who were threatened ought to smack that evil granny around with turkey (not chicken) drumsticks and stick it up her fat butt. :2razz:

Re: KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and

But obviously we don't have all the information either way, and yet people are in almost the same breath saying that we shouldn't have jumped to conclusions against KFC right away because it is hoax. The problem is that we don't know if it is really a hoax or not or what really went on. If it went one the way described by the family, it is horrible. But if it is a hoax by the family to garner money, that is awful as well, and the adults in the matter should be held accountable. The only thing that we can really say is that KFC shouldn't be held accountable for this because they didn't do it and have been working their butts off since this story first surfaced to check it out and help the family.

The problem is that the original story was so full of holes including they said it occurred at a KFC franchise that had been closed for years. There were no witnesses to this act and the grandmother and child are not found in any of their store cam videos.
This is probably as much information one is going to receive on this incident and one may have to make their conclusion from that. This is no different than on the tv series COPS when an officer approaches a suspect and the suspect throws such a tall tale of an alibi the officer has to make a conclusion on whether he thinks he is lying or not.

This story is so unbelievable that I can't believe anyone was that naive to believe it in the first place. Surely there would have been witnesses to this incident if customers were complaining about this little girl and a KFC employee escorting them out............................................. REALLY?

The story stunk to high Heaven right out of the gate.

Even the claim of which KFC store this allegedly happened at was wrong; that store had been closed for years. The aunt then said that she was the one who goofed rather than grandma. So dumb.

Venal too, of course, but you'd think these grifters would have checked out this particular "detail."

All of which came out prior to the investigation. But there are people who would do this. I don't think it is common at all, but it can happen. Just because most people wouldn't do it, doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

As for the store cam videos, that was not official information until yesterday. The post you just quoted was made prior to KFC saying that (not that they actually did). It was based on an anonymous source, which is just as bad as taking the grandmother's word on it.

Plus, this is why time is required rather than calling people naive. Witnesses are not going to spring up automatically if something like this took place. It wasn't unbelievable because things like this have happened before. Perhaps not with a disfigured little girl, but other things that many would think should appall people, but very few are willing to say something about.

Even though the story was confirmed as being a hoax, KFC announced that they're still honoring their pledge of $30,000 towards this little girl's medical bills.

Someone remember this the next time there is screaming and yelling about evil corporations.

For every nice thing like this a big corp does, how many rotten things do they do?

Would they have done this had this not happened? As it is, this donation is a bargain for them, so I am not so sure I would paint them as the heroes because of this donation.

Would they have donated $30,000 to her medical expenses? I assume that was a rhetorical question. Do many companies spend their days trolling the internet for victims of pit bull attacks?

I'm curious what the "bargain" is here for them. Someone made a false accusation against them, dopes on the internet jumped all over a lie and went on the attack, their employees have been getting threatened. How is this a "bargain"? Do you always donate money to people who lob false accusations against you? I sure don't.

Re: KFC accused of kicking out girl, 3, scarred in pit bull attack By Ralph Ellis and

Not what I said.

For every 2 touchdowns Joe Montana threw, he threw an incomplete pass. Does that mean he was a bad quarterback?

At the end of the day, it is buttloads of free advertising. It's all over the news. You think 30k would buy them that? They are no fools.

Well, now that I think about it, it is good advertising. Good for them. I hope they gain something from this.

Exactly. In fact if they could find another kid like this, they should make a habit of it and get the press.

KFC China Promotional Disaster: Yum Brands Company Criticized For Ripping Chinese Customers Off

YUM! Brands - SourceWatch
In May of 2005, two animal welfare experts resigned after being asked to sign an agreement barring them from speaking publicly on such issues as animal slaughter. Dr. Temple Grandin and Dr. Ian Duncan stepped down from YUM! Brands animal welfare committee after being sent an agreement requiring them to refer all media inquiries to KFC corporate headquarters:

In separate investigations in 2007, PETA documented Tyson Foods workers urinating in the "live hang" area and on the conveyor belt that carried birds to slaughter. Other abuses included breaking legs and wings, throwing birds against shackles, breaking a chickens back by beating it on a rail, stabbing birds in the neck and shackling birds by the neck instead of the legs. The investigation also documented supervisors who were either directly involved or refused to enforce animal welfare policies. For example, a supervisor was recorded telling the investigator that ripping the heads off live birds was acceptable. Another refused to intervene when after birds became trapped at the end of the conveyor belt and when birds were cut at the body (instead of the throat). Abuse was was documented at both the Georgia and Tennessee plants. [9]

Tyson is also a major supplier of restaurant chains, which also includes McDonalds. [10] Tyson also has a history of human rights abuses which include safety violations, workplace fatalities, substandard wages and benefits and harassment and physical assaults on striking workers.

Greenpeace's campaign against Sinar Mas has revealed that the packaging of Pizza Hut and KFC takeaway brands is made from a Sinar Mas paper mill fed by illegal logging in Sumatra. Greenpeace is about to call for a boycott of these brands.

Maybe some good will come out of it. Lots of companies will do this type of thing (without the false accusation and BS, I mean).

I actually see companies in my area doing the same thing. Not just for people, but for the local animal shelters too (I love when I see them do that).
