As Ricky used to say to Lucy, the IRS has some 'splaining to do.
Is there anyone on the planet who takes the IRS explanation at face value?

Lois Lerner's Lost Emails: Questions for the IRS - Sharyl Attkisson

The news came late in the day on Friday the 13th.
According to the House Ways and Means Committee, the IRS reports having “lost” former IRS manager Lois Lerner’s emails to and from other IRS employees sent between January of 2009 and April of 2011 due to a ‘computer crash.’
In light of the disclosure, these are some of the logical requests that should be made of the IRS:

  • Please provide a timeline of the crash and documentation covering when it was first discovered and by whom; when, how and by whom it was learned that materials were lost; the official documentation reporting the crash and federal data loss; documentation reflecting all attempts to recover the materials; and the remediation records documenting the fix. This material should include the names of all officials and technicians involved, as well as all internal communications about the matter.
  • Please provide all documents and emails that refer to the crash from the time that it happened through the IRS’ disclosure to Congress Friday that it had occurred.
  • Please provide the documents that show the computer crash and lost data were appropriately reported to the required entities including any contractor servicing the IRS. If the incident was not reported, please explain why.
  • Please provide a list summarizing what other data was irretrievably lost in the computer crash. If the loss involved any personal data, was the loss disclosed to those impacted? If not, why?

  • Please provide documentation showing the steps taken to recover the material, and the names of all technicians who attempted the recovery.
  • Please explain why redundancies required for federal systems were either not used or were not effective in restoring the lost materials, and provide documentation showing how this shortfall has been remediated.
  • Please provide any documents reflecting an investigation into how the crash resulted in the irretrievable loss of federal data and what factors were found to be responsible for the existence of this situation.
  • I would also ask for those who discovered and reported the crash to testify under oath, as well as any officials who reported the materials as having been irretrievably lost.

Happy Fathers Day JH.

For me, the one question I would like answered, is: "Why did you think this excuse would solve the problem"

Same to you, Ocean.:2wave:

If this was considered to be their best option, imagine what the truth must be like!

It reminds me of when my son claimed the speeding ticket he got was due to the accelerator sticking.

I would think, in general, the response to this excuse from the IRS should be met with the same reaction: A stare, and initial silence over the absurdity of the claim.

Who gives a ****? Seriously? The GOP had the chance to investigate this right. They didn't, this just reset everything 3-5 years. NOTHING WILL COME OF IT, just drop it. It's done. We lost.

News reports are also reporting that all official IRS emails are to be printed and hard copies saved. Was this procedure followed? If not why? and is this a violation of law to not properly save hard copies?

If there is an ongoing cover-up then the investigation isn't over.:peace

Dude, that was like four years ago. What difference, at this point, does it make? The bottom line is that the hard evidence has officially been said to have disappeared and we are left no choice but to forget the entire affair. ;)

What investigation? Bunch of screw loose nuts holding pointless, toothless hearings and doing NOTHING. "Oh, we... we can't those emails cause the hard drive broke!! I'm calling for a special committee to discuss how to respond to this outrage, we'll have the first meeting to select the members of this committee in late July..."

Hapless idiots are in charge of this **** atm. Like we couldn't see this "lost our homework" crap coming a mile away.

Oh, I absolutely agree! The e-mails probably didn't contain anything interesting anyway, so no harm done! Let's just chalk it up to a unavoidable glitsch that happens to things electronic sometimes, and move on.

Good morning, ttwtt78640.

Good morning, ttwtt78640.

Yep, the administration has investigated itself and found that absolutely nothing, not even a smidgeon, was wrongly done. The homework was thoroughly reviewed and given an A+, even though it was eaten by the dog. ;)

1st question should be, why did it take over a year to tell congress of this supposed computer crash?

we are being lied to by the IRS.

"You have received an apology from us, even though it was not something we could imagine happening - what's your problem?" :2mad:

Sit back, shut up, and enjoy the fundamental transformation of America - yes he can! ;)

Totally unbelievable.

If the emails are on a government computer, there's a backup of them somewhere.
If the emails are on a private email account, and was used for government business, then that's illegal.

This is just yet another stall tactic to stretch this issue out past the November elections or even part the end of Obama's term.

About as disgusting a coverup behavior from government as possibly imaginable.

Greets and Cheers Polgara! :2wave:

not solve the problem ... just drag it out

The thing I can't figure out is since they knew the reaction that announcement would get, why would they deliberately go that route? It only intensifies curiosity about how damaging those e-mails really are, and doesn't help their position at all - so why do it? Are they that far out of touch with reality, and/or do they really think we are that stupid? :sinking: *rhetorical questions*

Good morning, Erik. :2wave: :fathers_d.

Granted rhetorical, but I really don't know anymore what this president and this administration are thinking anymore, or even if they ARE thinking.

Good morning, Erik. :2wave: :fathers_d.

Thanks for the well wishes!

I mean seriously, what more should one expect from the most transparent administration in US history? Sheesh... give them a break already.

:2wave: Hello Ms. P!

Greetings, Mo. :2wave: :fathers_d:

They've used up their quota of breaks - no more available to give them! They'll have to start earning any they get in the future, if reading the mood of the country is any indication!
