CNN reports now that Eric Cantor, Republican top-liner is gone. He was beaten by a Tea Party candidate. What does this say about the rest of the down-stream Republican Ticket in 2016, if Cantor, can't even hold on to his seat - which I am certain he thought he would/could retain?

Eric Cantor Dusted in Virginia.

"We've got some stuff falling. A little bit of stuff falling."

Gee. They are even feeling this in Los Angeles.

Clears the way for James Carr, Libertarian in Va's 7th district.

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

I'm shocked... The punditry, and I agree, keep indicating that immigration reform is dead. I didn't follow the race that closely, but I guess that's what this race came down to.

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

I have got to be very honest with everyone by saying that I am really glad to see this Capital Obstructionist gone. He added little and stood in the way of much. He was a major hindrance to this White House, which extremists will congratulate him for. But, most importantly, he brought no creative problem solving ideas of his own. He was a Capital Hill Operative and nothing more.

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

Another target for the Democrats is what that means. Depending on the level of nuttery of this particular candidate.

Centrist upset at a Republican for standing in the way of the Obama demands. Amusing.

Cantors loss is just the thing the Tea Party needed to get traction going in Va. I'm very happy to see this.

Aren't you ignoring the fact he lost his primary because he wasn't obstructionist enough

I want to see the turnout and the vote totals before I comment. I did not follow this race.

I think that is one part of it. Cantor had a habit of promising to end abuses in D.C. to his voters and the Republican base, but then turning around and striking a deal negating that. Voters I think are getting fed up with being lied to for the purposes of elections and I think Cantor is the first to fall. May not be more upsets this cycle, but more to come in the future I'm sure.

It was pretty deep thrashing of Cantor. I think the message to the GOP is "Don't you DARE back Amnesty, enforce the laws and quit trying to sell out for votes to illegals".

I'm only half listening, but I think Foxnews just indicated it was low turnout... I guess he and his democrat opponent are both professors at the same college. The republican, an economics prof.. I'm not sure what the dem prof teachers..> Probably Womyn studies or so...

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

agreed... The Dems should be shaking in their seats.. tells me the mood of the country has had enough Obama lackies...

Cantor is a decent man for sure.. but thats just not enough

This is breaking news all over the place. It came as a shock to not just Republicans, but Democrats as well.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!

Thank god...

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

those in this VA district are naive DA's. you just lost your influence in congress. no one will listen to this guy!!

Brat had a huge push the other day. I also think the lack of a Democratic primary contributed to it, a lot came out against Cantor.

If you didn't like Cantor... just wait. Another Ted Cruz just elected. The Tea Party in Congress has one response to anything... No. They don't have alternative ideas or stand for anything. All they do is stand against things.

This is a sad day for the GOP.

You know that Virginia is an Open Primary state where anyone, regardless of political affiliation, can vote in any primary? In other words, Democrats could have come out to vote against Cantor in the Republican Primary. That should not be legal. It has to be an infringement on the First Amendment Right of GOP voters that Democrats can vote in their primary, or vice versa. Hell, isn't that what the General Election is for?

Not one of the professional prognosticators seen this coming.

That's possible, that is if Virginia has open primaries like we have here in Georgia. VA-7, Cantor was rated solid/safe for november, I wonder if the election of Brat will change that rating?

What is it Dunce... no, I'm sorry Deuce. Bratt is an econ Professor at the same college at which his Dem opponent works(ed).... Both academics at the same institution, not much biographical fodder there.

Re: Eric Cantor is Gone

Virginia has open primaries. Rasmussen had Cantor with a 34-point lead.

My guess: Democrats turned out in droves to vote for the other guy.

There are open primaries. Im guessing Brat is going to cruise to victory. The 7th generally doesn't even have a candidate against Cantor. I think the Libertarian will pose a bigger problem then the Democrats.

So they can make good decisions now and then...;)
