High School seems to be causing PTSD for some teens every bit as much as a combat zone. The sooner we understand the mental causes of such violence the sooner we might find a solution.

It's a discouragement. Kids bring guns to school all the time, but nearly all of it is with harmless intent. When I was in the 3rd grade, a kid at my school brought his dad's .38. He wasn't gonna shoot anyone, he just wanted to show it off. Declaring a school a "Gun Free Zone" is supposed to discourage that. I don't know what dumbass thought they were put off to actually impede a criminal, but now that seems to be a common point of dicussion.

No it's not. It's a "feel good law" by weak politicians.

Thanks. My friend is fine, he is actually assigned as a Troutdale PD to the school. I haven't heard from him, but I am sure I will get the scoop. My day was filled with a little anxiety. I can't imagine what those who went through it are dealing with.

So instead of making it a "gun free zone", you make a "students cannot carry weapons onto the premises" rule - not that it's illegal off of school grounds anyway.

Nor can I, but I'm glad your friend is okay.

My kids all got home from school within the last 20 minutes. I can't tell you how happy I am to see them.

Assuming you don't have any ill intent, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

But if I see a grown man walking into a school carrying a gun, history doesn't exactly give me a good impression of what's going on.

If that were the case it would include age limits and time limits. Not a complete ban from even CCW holders.
It was a weak act to combat crime. To say they did something.

No, in a perfect world we wouldn't have to worry about accidental shootings, or worry about whether that guy who's got a handgun in his pocket has any ill intentions or not.
