My state is MA. By clicking on the map, I was lead to this part of the website where I can obtain sex offenders in my area without typing in any specific name. It will list all of the listed sex offenders in my city.

Only if you know the name of the offender when I clicked on my state. It was what I stated earlier.

That is strange. I just checked your state for myself, and you're right. For Mass, all I have to do is select a city/town, and a list of all the registered offenders comes up for me. I think your state needs to fix that. All parents should be able to know if there is a pedophile living next door IMO.

I wasnít intending to be personal but this kind of topic tends to trigger simplistic, dare I say knee-jerk, responses and I believe the reality is more complex and difficult that they give credit for. Questioning those responses can lead to more considered responses.

My personal opinion is that paedophilia is sexual attraction to per-pubescent children and thus not really relevant to the case in this thread. In general terms though, Iím largely in agreement with your position as youíve now presented it (though my preference regarding crime in general is rehabilitation and deterrence over raw punishment). Determining the specifics is the difficult part though, where everyone has opinions that few are really qualified to offer (myself included).

I know laws vary by state, I wished at least they had some uniformity across the board on something like this.

I mean, how do we know there isn't one convicted and released sex offender living next door to us? This is messed up, putting it mildly.

How would you act differently if you knew there was a convicted sex offender living in your area compared to how you act now, knowing there is likely to be unconvinced ones somewhere near by.

Since I'm almost 62 y.o., and have no children in the home now, it wouldn't bother me too much,

however, if I knew for a fact that a convicted pedophile was living in my ghetto, and my neighbors had children, I would inform the parent/s of those children and not say anything to the former offender, I would allow the parents of the child or children to handle the situation.

I do know for a fact that the offenders released into my ghetto have to follow certain guidelines, terms of their release, dictated by the state. One of those stipulations is that the former offenders have a NO CONTACT order with other tenants, and, the visitors of the former offenders also have a NO CONTACT stipulation, with other tenants, which has been violated numerous times, and the former offenders have been removed by the state and re-incarcerated for those violations.

Something as simple as knocking on another tenants door asking to borrow items,

e.g., one knocked on my door at 10:30 p.m. and asked to borrow a screwdriver.

KNOWING that there is one living next door as opposed to not makes a big difference, wouldn't you say? If that particular person approaches your child (or ANY child) while playing outside, you can call the police and have him arrested because they are not supposed to have ANY contact with children.

Why bother with court cases at all then. Why not just mob rule based on media coverage?

I'm also curious why it being implied that his being a billionaire somehow justifies greater punishment.
He's probably a Republican. If it were wealthy democrat, that sentence would be just fine and the Republicans would be asking that question.
