Cruz wins presidential straw poll at GOP summit

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has won the latest presidential straw poll at a conservative summit in Louisiana.

Cruz took 30 percent of the vote at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. He edged out conservative speaker and author Ben Carson.

What doe's anyone think about this?

My thoughts are that neither Cruz, nor Carson will ever see the inside of the White House except as guests.

I doubt that either one of them will be the GOP's candidate.

    Cruz is a dumbo.
    Dr. Carson is discredited.

Too much political ammo against them.
Don't get me wrong, their base and a lot of the tea party will vote for them. So say, that gives them 30-35% of the vote. But the independents won't vote for them and I think republicans who don't hate government won't vote for them.
Carson may have a better chance than Cruz because he didn't shut down the government due to stupidity but he has showed himself to be a utterly defunct from a mental standpoint. He said a whole lot of BS about obamacare... said that Lenin was for socialized medicine because it was the arc on which socialism stands or some crap like that which Lenin never said. And that's just 1 example of many.

The problem with straw polls is that they show which candidate is more appealing to their base. And that's not what the republicans need. You have the base. get people who are not in your base. The independents and those confused.

Straw polls are a pretty bad indicator of future nominees. They tend to be held at events that draw the True Believers. The moderate Republicans (or Dems) who generally decide primaries don't get a say in those. In fact, at some straw polls, a vote in the poll is contingent on a donation. I pay them no heed.

    From the linked story:

Cruz took 30 percent of the vote at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. He edged out conservative speaker and author Ben Carson.

Organizers at the annual conference say about a third out of 1,500 delegates voted in the straw poll. Delegates had to pay to register for the conference and vote in the straw poll.
So 500 people of the 1,500 present were allowed to vote, and paid for the privilege. Small sample size, skewed poll base ... meaningless.

The first words out of my mouth were going to be "pppffft...straw polls."

It shocks me, to be honest. Neither of them give me the impression that they could garner hroad support.

Rand Paul would be my first choice for 2016 GOP nominee as he is simply poison to the party, the ticket and most of the nation. If he cannot get it, a crazy like Cruz might be the next best thing.

    Who cares?

Both parties are staggeringly corrupt and/or ignorant.

Whomever wins in 2016 (from either party), they will make the country much worse during their term.

When will the ignorant masses wake up...probably when it's too late.

It has become increasingly likely that the GOP will have no one to field that isn't crazy.
