US soldier freed from captivity in Afghanistan

What the heck are you talking about him being discharged. How was he still in the Army and deployed if he was discharged.
Also you still haven't said what he did that is so awesome.

:3oops: I thought this was the Snowden thread. My apologies.

Mornin' Apache. :2wave: Yep BO did go around the Law again. Which now the Republicans need to take him to task on this. He Negotiated with Terrorists. Moreover.....his excuses just don't cut it. Here is what Team BO is saying in his defense.

The White House agreed that actions were taken in spite of legal requirements and cited "unique and exigent circumstances" as justification.

Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon of California and Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma said in a statement that Obama is required by law to notify Congress 30 days before any terrorists are transferred from the U.S. facility. They said Obama also is required to explain how the threat posed by such terrorists has been substantially mitigated.

In response, the White House said it moved as quickly as possible given the opportunity that arose to secure Bergdahl's release. Citing "these unique and exigent circumstances," the White House said a decision was made to go ahead with the transfer despite the legal requirement of 30 days advance notice to Congress.....snip~

GOP lawmakers: Prisoner exchange violated law

BO knows he was going around Congress again.....he knowingly knows. So now its up to the Republicans need to call him out on this. As he can't show releasing these 5 Chumps that they are not a threat to US Personnel and American citizens.

And a top to the morning to you MMC, well it's still the A.M. out here on the Left Coast.

I saw that this morning, the Obama administration is already changing their story in less than 24 hours after coming out announcing that they traded five extremely dangerous high ranking Taliban leaders for one American deserter.

Why didn't they in the beginning announced they broke the law and gave the reason when they first announced the exchange ?

You watch, the Obama White House excuses and story will keep changing.

The Obama White House still hasn't explained why they brought this deserter to the White House still wearing his Taliban beard and treated him as a hero.

Deserting from your unit in a combat zone is worse than buggery, it's worse than surrendering, it's worse than falling asleep on your post in combat. Why isn't this guy in the stockade right now ? Why is he still wearing the Taliban beard ?

Is this another attempt of covering up the incompetencies of the Obama administration ?

Nice non-response.

Seriously. A POW has been released. If you want to be pissed off about that, then whatever.

How am I supposed to respond to personal attacks? Want me to report you to yourself?

The USA needs Qatar just as much as Qatar needs the USA and Qatar knows that.

Not to mention Obama doesn't have the balls to do anything. Qatar knows that, too.

I think Obama really stepped in it here. I just can't fathom why anyone, including his advisors did not see what a disaster this could turn into. What if it turns out that this soldier deserted and skirted his oat and responsibilities as a soldier by being "captured" by the enemy? There are two disturbing conclusions I can think off right off the top of my head. He either cares very little for the military in the sense where good order and discipline need to be maintained. Or he just really did not think of the consequences at all....

I mean just paint the picture yourself. You have the President of the United States shaking hands and giving a warm welcome to someone who may have deserted his unit and got several soldiers in his unit killed trying to find him. You have the President of the United States warmly welcoming someone who's beliefs run contradictory to the war effort he is sending troops in to fight. You have the President of the United States standing next to someone who may hold extremist beliefs that continue to kill Americans all over the world. Does anyone else but myself see this, or is everyone wearing the same blinders? I really am beside myself..... I am not even a politician and I can even understand why Obama would have distanced himself from this situation. Maybe mention that they have secured his release and give a brief statement that he is glad he is able to bring an American citizen back to America, but leave it at that. Even that may have been to much...

I would prefer people just stop voting for people like him. They wont, of course.

Now that is a good idea. Now all we need do is make it so?

Not to mention Obama doesn't have the balls to do anything. Qatar knows that, too.

Yeah.....like we shouldnt be listening to Qatar. These Mopes have all been backing that MB and have proven they are nothing more than some **** stirrers themselves. We shouldn't be listening to the Taliban nor Qatar.

Qatar is the one offering assurances. Well.....if anything. We should be making an Offer to Qatar. One that THEY can't Nor wont refuse.

and you're so influenced by the conservative entertainment media that you're actually pissed off about a POW being released after five ****ing years in captivity?

seriously. i mean, i understand that it's possible to hate a president that much, but seeing it in the wild is still stunning every time. this guy is not the president. he is a POW. what is Fox saying about him?

never mind, i just went and looked. Fox cleverly inserted the "desertion" angle, just as i expected. and turned off comments for the article. i wonder why.

Probably because the comments were coming from those who served and these vets started using words that soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen use.

Forget about Obama breaking the law again, it's expected.

It's about a "sad sack" of a soldier who committed a capital offense and let down the soldiers of his unit, the U.S. Army and America and deserted his post in a combat zone. During war time, desertion (Article 85 UCMJ) death by musketry. That's how serious this is. And this low life shows up at the White House still wearing his Taliban beard and is treated as a hero. What the **** is going on ?

What we should do.....is embarrass BO to explain why he used the word Exigent. Then ask him why he would use Big words he doesn't understand then throw them out to the average and Poor Americans. Start humiliating his ass in Public and in front of that Camera.

Doubt that will happen, considering the administration apparently broke the law itself to gain the guy's release.

It's amazing how Obama has no compunction about breaking laws.

I understand and accept that Helix's rule states that given enough time and participation, a thread about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich will turn into a flame war, but this is even more stunning.

A POW has been released after five years in captivity, and the right is pissed off about it? Seriously?

Five years, man.

Five ****ing years.

Five years is nothing comparable to the firing squad which is the punishment for desertion during war in a combat zone.

Private Slovik found that out when General Eisenhower signed off on his execution.

It's amazing how Obama has no compunction about breaking laws.

That's Right MC.....he knowingly knows what he did. He must have thought people forgot he was an attorney. Or alleged to be one, that is.

This whole situation is a mess.

And I'm inclined to think that it won't look any better in the future.

If and when we find out more about how this guy became a 'POW', it might stink more.

We use words like DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY and Obama and the entire White House staff go scrambling looking for a dictionary.

It's amazing how Obama has no compunction about breaking laws.

It's part of the Unitary Executive, passed down to him from his predecessor.

Though in this particular case, it ain't no big deal. He should have notified Congress first, yes.

We use words like DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY and Obama and the entire White House staff go scrambling looking for a dictionary.

We should catch him talking to the poor.....then jump his ass and humiliate him in front of them. Telling him to explain why he would use words to those that don't understand such. Just how is that being fair to them.

Or didn't he want to explain his Social Class of being Wealthy to them?

Other parties and the Republicans should be taking the Democrats to task over how they divide up the country. Its time to start dividing them up. To the point of non-existence.

No, and I am not aware what you are even talking about. I am simply making the point that before we lay out a warm welcome mat, we better make sure we are not condoning dissent to manifest itself within the ranks by saying its ok to go AWOL and take refuge with the enemy.

i'm in shock. i cannot ****ing believe that you guys are making this political. i have disliked fox for a while now, but now i am starting to hate it along with the whole partisan media on both sides. stop ****ing up my country with this nonsense.

a POW who spent five ****ing years as a captive just got sent home, and the right is launching a conspiracy theory because it still hates Obama. who gives a flying ****? just be happy that the dude is home.

i'm really having difficulty controlling my anger about this.

Heya Helix :2wave: ......can you show the Army fielded by the Taliban? When did we issue a declaration of War on the Taliban?

This has nothing to do with just the GOP questioning. There are Democrats questioning to.

How can BO state these 5 Taliban leaders will be mitigated from going after US assets and US citizens?

What don't you get about.....no matter how flowery BO makes his speech. The rest of the Planet just got done watching us Negotiate with terrorists. The US.....who says it absolutely refuses to negotiate with Terrorists. :doh

hi, MMC. hope that you are well.

i think this topic makes me too angry to be civil. this dude being held hostage in a war that i want us to completely withdraw from has bothered me for a long time. when it came across the wires that he was being let go yesterday, my reaction was relief. ****, i've never gone through anything like that, and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. i really didn't expect anyone to make it political, but i probably should have. i should probably walk away from this thread for an hour or so until i stop seeing red.

as for the prisoners from Guantanamo, i support closing down the whole thing. holding people for 13 years without trial does not jibe with my vision of America.

anyway, hope you guys are enjoying good weather up in Chicago. the GF said it got pretty cold there the other night.

All is well brutha.....hope you are too. Yep we did go down in temp after having an 80 degree day. It was weird. Should have seen the fog in the early morning. Well you couldn't miss it.

I can understand how you feel. Know most Vets are happy this guy is out of the ****. Yet its the cost.....and as some have pointed out. Others have been killed and or wounded out looking for this guy.

Which says nothing about our Enemies and now for sure, AQ.....who has been directing their message to now. That's now......go after US Citizens so that they can negotiate the release of their people. Seeing this take place for the Z-Man.....he must be dancing a jig and hitting his Hookah Pipe. Just sayin!

So when Rolling Stone magazine talks to people that were in the unit with this guy, and they all say he just walked away. When emails from the guy talk about his disgust with America and the army and days later he supposedly 'walks off'… well all that is a right wing/fox news conspiracy?

That dog don't hunt dude… not even close.
