House stops feds from executing raids in medical marijuana states

House votes to stop feds from executing raids in medical marijuana states - UPI.com

after midnight Friday, congress voted to approve an amendment that would bar federal agencies from holding raids in states that allow medical marijuana.

If the amendment passes, the Senate, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Justice Department would have to halt all efforts to curb the distribution and cultivation of marijuana in states that legally "authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana."

"Congress is officially pulling out of the war on medical marijuana patients and providers," said Dan Riffle, director of federal policies for the Marijuana Policy Project. "Federal tax dollars will no longer be wasted arresting seriously ill medical marijuana patients and those who provide to them."
All I can say is "about damn time" and "what can we do next to get rid of such a stupid designation such as weed being illegal"

I'm all for decriminalizing it and always have been. The issue of the FED executing raids has been long simmering, particularly in California. Now that other states have followed suit with regard to medical marijuana, getting this matter addressed was a necessity long over due. Should be interesting to see what happens as a result.

    Not exactly.

    If the amendment passes,

The measure passed 219-189. Although votes were mostly along party lines, with Democrats favoring the measure and Republicans opposing, the bill was carried to victory by a bipartisan coalition that included 49 Republican "aye" votes.

People need to read the article in the link.

We'll see what they do. Wouldn't a bill of such need the president's signature? If so, Obama would probably veto, not sign.

Is it this coming Tuesday that Congress introduces another amendment to the bill of bringing back the federal marijuana tax. $50 per gram tax ?

Obama would probably veto it since it would be giving power back to the states.

    Obama despises states rights.

I'm curious as to what, if any effect this will have on the Harborside Health Center case. They are the only dispensary to fight back against the FED and they recently were able to have their eviction suit thrown out. Apparently the matter is still in limbo. I recently watched an episode of Morgan Spurlock's "Inside Man" about the case. I was quite impressed as was Spurlock with their operation, which is why they have been targeted. Anyone interested can follow the case here.

This whole subject is very confusing. They want to prevent the government from enforcing a law yet keeping the drug illegal. There seems to be so many other laws the government chooses to enforce now when they actually want to enforce one, everyone is up in arms.
