Politico has the following banner: "Breaking News: W.H. press secretary Jay Carney steps down"

No link yet.

White House Spokesman Jay Carney to Leave Post, Obama Announces - NBC News

White House Spokesman Jay Carney to Leave Post, Obama Announces

Jay Carney is leaving his post behind the podium.

Good riddance!

Rumor has it that he's been negotiating with CNN for a few months to be on their payroll after he left the White House. Maybe he can replace Piers Morgan? At least it would be consistent in the tone of that show.

And, who can ever forget this wonderful display of professionalism and honesty:

Wonder who the new obfuscater for the President will be and will they be more or less arrogant and smug than Carney. I'm hoping he goes to CNN as they're about to keel over anyway. MSNBC already has enough hyperpartisan morons as well as racists - Carney would just be one in a sea and lost in the shuffle.

UGH! I remember that. He was at his snarkiest that day.

How much does the job of Chief Propogandist pay? I'd like to be considered. I can get up there and lie, snivel, and be an asshole too.

You'll have to clear your departure from Debate Politics with all of us here first.

My guess is that he's headed for Fox. They're going to fill his pockets with cash.

Everyone has a price.

Fill his pockets with cash for what in return? I don't think they have an opening other than being another paid contributor.

This was a huge surprise.

Did anyone see this coming?

I try to keep up with the news, but I didn't see a hint of this.

I think it takes a special kind of person to be able to do that job, and an even more special kind of person to want to take that on. I don't find it surprising at all. There only so much of that a person can take.

Well, I'm holding out that he left because he saw the writing on the wall for this admin. Sure it took some time, but maybe, just maybe, he'd had enough of it. Lying that is. Even devout progressives can get to a point where they say.. "Umm, gee...I'm not sure I can go out there and say that to the American media".. ;)

Here's hoping Carney has a modicum of integrity and it was his decision riddled finally with enormous guilt.

Tim-

I know someone perfect for the job, and I here he's available too.

Damn it, I'm always ****ing late to the party.

Obama announced the selection of Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest as his choice to be the next press secretary

TIME - Breaking News, Analysis, Politics, Blogs, News Photos, Video, Tech Reviews

I would have excelled at that role.

“As you know, his name describes his demeanor,” Obama said of his new press secretary. “Josh is an earnest guy, and you can’t find just a nicer individual, even outside of Washington.”

I'll bet I'm nicer. :2mad:

I only wish he had been fired. But, im sure the next guy will be just as bad. Its a really dumb position.

And if you don't agree, I'll kick your backside until your nose bleeds

I doubt Ari Fleischer will come out of retirement, he made good money after leaving the BushII leagues. He was Mark McGwire's press consultant after Mark admitted to steroid use, and worked briefly for Tiger Woods after that mess. (spokesman and consultant for men knee deep in their own poo, I detect a trend and skill set there)

He is credited with inventing the term 'homicidal bomber' to replace suicide bomber- is that obfuscating enough for ya???

He rolled over on Scooter Libby and claimed Scooter told him 'weeks' before the time Libby says a reporter told him about Plame being CIA (in a claim that Valerie sent her husband to look for a papertrail on yellowcake leaving Niger). So wouldn't you want a narc in the Obama White House?

Perhaps Scott McClellan is more to your liking, his book on the White House during the Iraq war is full of double talk and shoulder shrugging- a perfect muddle mouth man. He says the White House didn't deliberately use out and out deception but instead used "political propaganda campaign"... WTF? He says BushII used self deception and was in constant campaign mode rather than making the best choices... :(

Or how about Tony Snow...guest host for Oxcy Rush, O'Really and Fox 'news' show host... due to Josh Bolton demanding everyone sign on for the duration or go, Snow's tenure was short and cancer soon claimed him at age 52 IIRC... but he did the dance of a faltering Bush Administration amazingly well.

Tim-

I remember when Carney was writing for Time and a time when I respected him and his work even though I frequently disagreed with his point of view. I'm hoping that he woke up a few mornings ago, looked in the mirror, looked at his wife and kids, and decided that he can be better than this.

Just what sort of embrace is this? Definitely not a 'bro' hug.

Perhaps its the position that ruins people, rather than it attracting ruined people.
