Thank you for posting this, I didn't see the news of this.

Maya Angelou was a great human being who brought joy to many peoples lives after a good bit of pain and struggle in her own early life.

I could say a lot more but I'll just say RIP and leave it at that.

I'm just going to guess that some people on this forum will say some bad things about this lady who can no longer speak for herself, but that's their problem and they'll have to live with it.

Not sure it's in the entry, but Angelou was, among her many occupations, San Francisco's first black female streetcar conductor.

    From Wiki:

She became a poet and writer after a series of occupations as a young adult, including fry cook, prostitute, nightclub dancer and performer, cast member of the opera Porgy and Bess, coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and journalist in Egypt and Ghana during the days of decolonization. She was an actor, writer, director, and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs. From 1982, she taught at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she held the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies. She also served as a board of trustees member for historically black Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC until her death. Maya Angelou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    I totally agree.

Sometimes people see only the bad and miss all of the good.

I read the Wikipedia entry on Maya Angelou and what stood out to me were all of the great things that this fine lady did in her life.

If you'd read the Wiki entry and all that had stood out to you was that Angelou had once been a prostitute, I think this would be much more a reflection on you than it would be on her.

er greatest performance wasn’t in the miniseries Roots or on the album Miss Calypso. It was playing the character Maya Angelou. There’s a P.T. Barnum quality to Maya Angelou. Convincing the world of your greatness requires a greatness. This is especially true of the mediocre.

Going from rags to riches by conquering the business world serves as one American Dream. A more common, albeit less realized version, involves enjoying a six-figure living from a no-show job.

Her mouth occasionally called the promise of America a big fat lie. Her life begged to differ

Not all reflection on life is autobiographical. If life has been blessed for me...does not mean the same is true for every other human being on earth. Sometimes art shines the light on that truth.

I really resent this sweeping overgeneralization. I'm never quite sure what "the right" actually means, but I am a conservative, generally, and my posts on this thread have not been classless.

And yet all the classless post are from people who are conservative, so I think it is not an over generalization, a generalization yes....but then it is not atypical to see me lumped in with all kinds of crazy things.

It is an overgeneralization because it's a universal proposition that is invalid. And also a lie. Substitute "the left," and I'd say the same. You only diminish your credibility when you're unfair.
