US to keep nearly 10k troops in Afghanistan after 2014.

I can't speak for all Americans, but I've been furious with our troop presence there for, oh, I don't know, about a decade now.

Thing is, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.

If I was an American I would be furious with this. It's going to keep coming out of the tax payers pocket and the servicemen/women over there will remain targets for the foreseeable future.

I completely support the decision to not completely abandon the ANA and the Afghan people to their fate. I hope that our presence can help make the difference in their fight against the Taliban and its allies.

this is a mistake. get them all out of there now.

I'm an American and an afghan vet, and I am furious, but as soot pointed out, there's absolutely dick we can do about it.

Obama and his politicians want us there until at least 2024, and if we've learned anything it's that politicians do whatever the **** they want and we just have to find a way to live with it.

I firmly believe the people of the entire middle eastern Muslim nation cluster**** do not want or deserve western help or presence. Nothing anyone can do will prevent these cultural backwaters from trying to kill each other and anyone who bothers to step into it.

There simply comes a time when futility must be recognized.

Not true.

I am an American and I am not happy about this. The only acceptable number is zero. I don't care if it means we leave some equipment for them to play with and break, just get the eff out.

Not true.

Care to elaborate? This is a debate forum after all. Any time a group is started like occupy WS or Operation American Spring, the people just don't show up. For things to change, it has to affect a majority of the population at once. So far that event hasn't happened. 200 million people may dislike what is going on, but less than 1% actually care enough to do something. That is the sad reality.

I think at a certain point they are going to have to help themselves. NATO has been there now for nearly 15 years, have trained the ANA and helped the afghan people will their infastructure/ governign abilities. At this point what more can the USA provide?

They have been helping themselves. More than 12,000 members of the ANA and ANP have been killed fighting the Taliban and defending their country. I hope our continued military presence will do exactly what the link outlines.

Yea, people need to show up and vote for people that wont waste out tax dollars.

Send your child, or better yet. Go their yourself.

Yes, it's been quite the success over the past 13 or so years, yes? All that stability we've brought to the region. Really making a positive impact on the daily lives of the people.

No agreement is etched in stone.

The new Afghan President will be elected soon. A new American President will be elected soon. Congress has to ratify and fund any agreement.

Lots of things have to happen before anything is final.

This is infinity war, there's no plan to ever get out of the region. We'll always have an excuse for drone bombing civilians.

The ANA and the ANP are one thing however the Taliban are still receving help from many people from village elders, afghan government and normal local people. In my opinion the only thing a continued US presence guarantees is that the Taliban will still have a western enemy to target and to use as a recruiting tool in the country.

Yes, the US just loves bombing civilians. We can't get enough of it! We gotta keep troops in country so we can keep doing it!!

Correct, that's the plan... as opposed to them overrunning the democratic government.

I understand if you don't care about people in Afghanistan, but some of us do.

This is exactly right. Our continued military interventionism plays right into the hands of the terrorist propaganda machine. It's a shame that people cannot seem to recognize the propaganda and blow back of this system. Yet on their projections and suggestions are we to act. It's stupid, it's damaging, it's obvious. More appeal to ignorance in this country it seems.
