Police call deadly Santa Barbara shooting spree 'premeditated mass murder'[W220]

I wish people would stop discussing this guy as having a mental illness or womanizer. He was a narcissist who wasn't having it his way. He wasn't manic depressive or bipolar and even if he had been - NONE of those illnesses would have made his crime less of a murder. Putting him in the same circle as people with mental illnesses makes those who actually have them look worse and make him look better.

Blaming his lack of sex for his action is bull**** too. Half the middle class white boys I work with didn't get any until they were well into their 20s. None of them have started killing people - not yet or not that I know of anyways. This is a guy who wasn't getting the amount of satisfaction he thought he deserved and he decided to take it out on women. At best, he's somewhere behind a disorganized serial killer but he's not mentally ill. Quit saying he is. He was premeditated enough to post **** on the internet, make a barely coherent diatribe, get the weaponry and stalk a location. He was perfectly sane.

He is a spoiled little silver spoon twit.

Re: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/05/24/at-least-3-dead-in-shootings-in-santa-barbar

Actually he perceived himself too divine for other lower classes. I think this ordinal classification of humans is the core source of his jealousy, envy, spite, anger, and frustration of not having any (i.e., someone that highly should have girls undressed by a mere look).
Sure, most of the guys who think that way do feel they are above everyone else. I think though that this particular guy couldn't take the bruise to his ego when the reality that he wasn't at the level he assumed decided it was time to pay people back for not recognizing his greatness rather than humbling up.

Reality is a bitch for narcissist morons.

I'm just pissed that they take innocent folks out first.

Maybe I can start a school for these kind of folks on the back acreage. Graduation would consist of a pissed off pack of coyotes and a gun with only one bullet.

Not hard to figure out that math!

Another mass killing by a mentally deranged young man in a drive by shooting at Santa Barbara:

Gunman, six others killed in drive-by shooting, Santa Barbara police say | Fox News

This psychopathic guy posted a creepy Youtube video complaining about being still a virgin at 22 yr old and hating all the blonde beautiful women he couldn't get and all sexually active men who had all the women they want for sex. For that he went on a killing rampage the next day? What's going on mentally with the young men of American society?

Wow, The sheriff there surely knows how to state the obvious.

Lets see, In 2010, the county went 57.44% for Obama
in 2012, 61.5% for Feinstein

Shooter needed a lot more bullets.

Better it happened there than someplace decent.

Eh, the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. He was both a misogynist narcissist, and probably disturbed in some way -- my bet is on being a standard-issue psychopath or dark triad narcissist, which does not make someone "insane" as such. They're perfectly aware of the things they do, as he was. They just don't care.

Not all forms of disturbance mean that someone is "insane," in the sense that is used in an insanity plea, or that may excuse behaviors made in a delusional state. In some cases, as I suspect in his, it just means they are missing a part of their humanity, or perhaps have cannibalized it through an overwhelming amount of hatred and entitlement. The fact that he is probably disturbed is merely an observation, and quite possibly one of his own doing. He was certainly aware enough that, had he lived, he would have no defense for his actions.

It certainly isn't "lack of sex." There are some men right here here on DP older than him who have chosen celibacy, or merely not run into an opportunity that takes them, and they presumably manage not to murder people or become misogynists who call for Nazi-style destruction of women.

You don't think that a person would HAVE to be mentally ill to do something like this? The definition I find for mental illness is " mental illnesses are medical conditions that often result in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life." I'm unclear as to why you would think that his behavior is not indicative of someone with this kind of illness. It makes him no less to responsible for his actions you know.

Nope - just a ****ed up value system.

Uhm, the reason people are "discussing this guy as having a mental illness" is because he in fact DID. It's not even debatable. Diagnosed, given medication, refused to take it.

Now that's not meant to take away from anything he did or justify it in any way, but it is a fact of this case. He definitely had major mental issues.

No. Insanity as an excuse to commit this sort of crime has been proven to be a pretty weak defense. Mostly because:

Legal Dictionary | Law.com

Insanity. n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior.

By its legal definition, this guy doesn't fit the definition. He planned his attack, targeted victims, created a goal and in all that time was able to conduct his business without impulsive behavior. At no point were his actions based on a disconnect from reality. There are a wide number of killers who do this sort of thing and are never considered insane. Ted Bundy was a pretty popular and well rounded guy before he was caught. Even Dahmer kept up appearances for quite some time. Serial killers known as "angels of death" even manage to keep jobs for decades before they are found. He was not insane. He knew well what he was doing and by his actions proved it.

Blaming shootings on autism a mistake: experts - MarketWatch

Dr. Daniel Son, a Los Angeles psychiatrist, says Asperger’s actually does not exist as an official diagnosis among mental health professionals anymore, though it still is a commonly used term. He says as of a year ago, it now is simply considered part of the autism spectrum, and most who had been diagnosed with Asperger’s are thought to be high functioning and able to live relatively normal lives.

Son, who treats a number of young autism patients, says that obsessive behavior can result from the disease and patients can become fixated on certain issues. But other factors usually come into play when behavior becomes overwhelmingly violent.

“It’s really more associated with a troubled upbringing rather than the autism,” Son said.

Rodger’s parents split when Elliot was young and his father, Peter, in the film business and an assistant director on “The Hunger Games,” traveled extensively as part of his career.

Meanwhile, Lanza is thought to have possibly suffered from schizophrenia in addition to his Asperger’s. Academics said at the time that Lanza’s condition probably did not lead to his violent behavior, and Lanza’s father told Time Magazine that it shouldn’t be blamed for his son’s actions.

“I never knew he was autistic. He certainly never seemed like he was autistic in his posts on the forums.

“He would use very well structured sentences and his posts seemed very well thought-out.

“It’s disgusting that his narcissism drove him to this - I don’t think his disease can be blamed.”

Rodger also used a website called PUAHate.com, which describes itself as the ‘Anti-Pickup-Artist Movement’ to post his misogynistic thoughts.

Exactly. It was not women's fault that he wasn't getting any. Not even close. #YesAllWomen

I didn't say he was insane I said he was mentally ill.

A little OT but: having been to Santa Barbara a few times there are lots of hot blond women there, practically on every street. Just saying.

Well, here's a pro-tip for you guys. Girls don't really like cocky. Confident is sexy, but cocky is a turn off.

Doesn't matter how hot you are, or how rich you are - if you are a cocky douchebag, it's a turn off.

^ This.

Again, nobody is blaming this on his mental illness. Pointing out that he was ****ed in the head does not equal blaming, it does not mean he wasn't aware of what he was doing, it does not mean other factors weren't obviously in play, etc.

I mean seriously, does this sound like a perfectly normal/rational/functional individual to anybody else here?

Oh come on now, you can't fool us. We all know that stuff like this gets ALL the fine girls all hot and bothered:

"I am superior to them all. I am Elliot Rodger… Magnificent, glorious, supreme, eminent… Divine! I am the closest thing there is to a living god."

I also read where the little ***** issued a citizen's arrest on his roommate for stealing 3 of his candles.

Talk about a petty little twit.

Hopefully, he can hear these disparaging comments through the roar of the flames.

A petty little wimp like this couldn't get a date with an ugly street dog.

**** him.

What I dont get is why didnt his roommates dump him or leave after he made that citizen's arrest on them? Common sense would tell you that if you have a crazy roommate its time to look for another. Even if it was college they could have complained to the faculty. I couldnt stand my parents and moved out the first chance I got but I would have moved back in with them if I were to choose between living with them and a crazed roommate.

Here's something funny about Feinstein. When asked what she knew about the gun issue, she stated that she had seen pictures of thousands of guns....... Which logically leads to the following statement - If this makes her an expert on the gun control issue, then every teenage boy in America is an expert in gynecology. LOL.

I heard on the news today that the kid had been in therapy since he was eight years old. Clearly, the parents knew he had a problem and was all over it early in his life. Unfortunately, once he reached legal adulthood, he was in a position to move out of their house (and their sphere of influence), stop taking his medications, stop going to therapy and plan his insane vengeance.

This is NOT the parents' fault. They literally did everything they could, and tried everything legally available to them. Some people are just... broken. :(

Based on what was offered to read about Elliot Rodgers then I think so too. Of course we do not really know that the writing is Elliot's do we?

The underlying message from Elliot Rodgers is: Humanity is on your hands ladies. If you do not offer sexual favors to everyone then humanity gets it, just so you know ;)

Seems to me the shooter was the silent/shy type (though I could be wrong since I dont know him and simply extrapolating form what he wrote), those people tend to get overlooked by girls, especially if they dont hang out with popular friends or go to parties. Ive known quite a few women who have gotten cocky douchebags as husbands too. ;)

Dude must have zero game. In my teens and early twenties I was dirt poor and uglier than this kid - and I got more ass than a toilet seat.

If anything, I think it speaks to this entitlement nation. He thought that chicks should spread on demand. Ya ain't that rich, kid.
