Urumqi attack kills 31 in China's Xinjiang region

    From the BBC:

Attackers in China's restive Xinjiang region have crashed two cars into shoppers at a market, killing 31 people, Chinese media reports say.

They also threw explosives during the attack in the regional capital Urumqi. More than 90 people were injured, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.

IMO, China needs to act decisively before this terrorist threat gets out of hand. China can ill-afford to assume that economic development will bring an end to such a problem. Ethnic hatreds are fundamental and they generally are not impacted by economic conditions. Sufficient force, on the other hand, can lock them up so to speak so as to reduce the threat of violence.

I don't think the Chinese security forces need any encouragement, you. You can be sure they will do what they think they have to.

Chinese aren't exactly known for wearing white gloves when it comes to domestic enemies.

I certainly hope so. That China has shifted its focus and application of power to external territorial disputes might well have created a vacuum of sorts that emboldened the terrorist movement to step up its attacks in numerous cities, some outside of China's Xinjiang region. That increasing numbers of civilians are being targeted e.g., in the park in the latest attack, is particularly troubling.

It certainly looks like a terrorist attack when innocent people are targeted, and committed by the usual suspects as well.

The "usual suspects" is correct. As usual, that little detail was waaaay down in the article.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I do not support targeting Uighurs in general. My comments apply strictly to the terrorists and terrorist organization(s), a small subset of the population.

Yes, Chinese terrorists, unlike Islamist terrorists, are infamous throughout the world.
