Seems to me he stood for it a long time.

Well, but he also sat frequently.... usually on golf carts.

So what's the good word today? Has our President made any strides with his new "I'm such a toughie" act? Is he holding people (including himself) accountable yet, or is he waiting for some report?

It would end this entire issue. While we are destroying bureaucracy (who knew bureaucracy could be slow), I have a few other institutions that we could do away with as well.

I wish he would ride golf carts every day and leave us alone.

Someone suggested a voucher system for Vets so they could attend nearby doctors and hospitals more easily but the outcry would be similar to vouchers for students. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, and all the broken promises, they still believe government is the solution rather than the problem.

I certainly think that would be an excellent idea. It's a great idea for Medicare coverage also. If the government has promised health care coverage whether it be Vets, Medicare.....by supplying them with vouchers to purchase coverage in the private sector would end two huge bureaucracies that are so inadequately run. Some vets have to travel quite far to even seek medical treatment. This way they could find a doctor closer to them and more readily available when needed. Excellent idea.

One issue that has not even been mentioned is there is an extreme difference in care and services state to state in the VA system. Your care in PA may be far greater than a vet in Louisiana. The VA system should go away and the vets should have the ability to see local doctors for care that is reimbursed by the VA. Just like ACA, medicare...
The VA Healthcare system can differ wildly from hospital to hospital even in the same state. I use the James Lovell Federal Healthcare Facility in North Chicago, Illinois (Great Lakes Navy Base combined active duty VA facility). If the federal government ever wanted to use a blueprint on how to run a healthcare facility, they could use this hospital as an example. I receive some of the best healthcare available, but you go just 50-miles South and there is the Edward Hines VA Hospital in Chicago . . . it is the arm pit of the VA healthcare system. It would be fair to note the VA hospital in Milwaukee is outstanding as well.

I didn't blame George Bush for Walter Reed, and I am not blaming Obama for this. It's amazing how many people think the president of the United States micromanages every single department under him. Dollars to doughnuts these offenses were carried out by career employees within the VA System. A system that remains broken, but with a little work, could function as well as the James Lovell Federal Healthcare Facility.

Don't want to run off track but there are many who believe that the government getting involved heavily in health care is a good thing and nothing like VA will occur. Glowing reports from other countries, including Canada, have been used as examples of government competence. https://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/cana...192709161.html Caveat Emptor!

When my dad went to the VA, he got right in, saw a doctor right away, and was admitted to the hospital. That was in California.

I wonder if the problems with the VA might be local rather than a general indictment of VA?

Or, maybe the services have been overwhelmed by the needs of soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afganistan with severe war wounds.

Aint that the truth. The Left's solution for failed government is always more government.
