No, the people did it. This is what they wanted and this is what they defend.
I admit that we have the government we deserve, but the big picture is that active efforts have been made over decades at least to deny rights and deny constitutional restrictions.
The people played a role, but government did too, and also industry, worse in some places than in others.
It hasn't been 2 years yet when Habeas Corpus was suspended by legislation. There were no citizens clamoring for that legislation. The government generated it by itself.
As GW said, a useful tool but a fearsome master.
