This is nothing new. I'm telling you, what's happening in the Middle East/Africa literally sounds like my Western Civ book during Feudalism except Islam is in the place of Christianity.
I see it more like the spread of Communism. They both need totalitarianism in order to survive.

Because the 'not all Muslims are terrorists' triteness is always introduced after every Islamic atrocity and it will then be the 'what about'.. argument. It should just be ignored.

Of course you are right that each of these atrocities should be discussed but most of them, like the burning to death of the school boys, is being ignored. That could be a result of PC, fear, or that people are just tired of reading about the crazy bastards.

    Actually, that's pretty accurate.

Which places Islam squarely in the middle ages, or at least the fundamentalist sort of Islam that spawns terrorism

Do those textbooks talk about the Arabs having had a renaissance before the Europeans did, and having invented such things as algebra and the base ten numbering system? Then, it seems, they started slipping back into the dark ages at the same time Christiandom started coming out of it.

Well... The Arabs did have a golden age but it was nowhere near as intense as the Renaissance which led to Europe ultimately dominating the entire globe for centuries.

Socially speaking however, Islam was always in a Dark Age so to speak, it's just the way the religion is set up compared to Christianity that in my view literally makes it inferior. I think however it might be getting even worse, like dark ages to pitch black ages. The worst example out there are the theocratic governments (governments rules by religious laws) of the Middle East in which people can still be stoned and subject to terrible medieval tortures.

Yeah, there are just WAY too many similarities between contemporary Islam and Medieval Chrsitianity.

#1 The absolute dominance over governments

#2 the absolute dominance over the way of thinking by the populace (religious views > secular views)

#3 The corruption of the religious institution

#4 The terrible and inhumane treatment of non-believers of the dominant religion

It's bad, all I can say at this point.

Religion (especially major ones) are, imo, by FAR man's dumbest invention.

This is a 'them' problem.........if people in Afruca and half the Middle East want to pretend like it's 1200 years ago......let them have at it........in another 1200 years they will figure it the f""k out and maybe become civilized......although I doubt it

The problem with that sort of attitude is that the problems in Africa and the ME spill over into the rest of the world. What we're seeing is the ongoing struggle between freedom and slavery. If we want to keep freedom, we need to be willing to be committed to that struggle.

And often that \struggle' only involves speaking out without fear of retaliation. Nonetheless, as we have seen, that retaliation from Muslims is real.

On an early thread where Ali Hirsi was 'dis-invited to speak' at Brandeis University the debate soon became about Hirsi Ali and not the truth of her words. This diversions are the most common tactic among those who don't want these issues discussed.

I missed that one. It does make you wonder just what the "core values" of Brandeis University really are. They don't appear to be very pro liberty.
