Judicial Watch: New Documents Show IRS HQ Control of Tea Party Targeting

Come on now, get your sources straight! Media Matters is Pete's go to for all things Fox News related, for scandal white washing he uses MoveOn.org

Ahh yes. Media Matters, MoveOn, Daily Kos.... it's tough keeping those libby sites straight.

No. It's a witch hunt. Bush did it. It was a long time ago. Nobody cares about that stuff. That's racist. The Koch brothers did it. Why do you hate Mexicans. I was golfing at the time.

Here's the deal, folks. Organizations like Judicial Watch have to be the ones that get this information because the animosity toward the Tea Party isn't limited to Democrats. There's a whole bunch of Republicans out there too that would gladly turn a blind eye to any targeting and quite a few that would encourage it. Remember, we called for primarying a bunch of these bastards too. Those Republicans would be pleased as punch to get nothing but heavily redacted documents which show just enough to make a scene but not enough to convict. That way they get their cake and eat it too.

Y'know what's funny, 40-50 years ago the "don't trust the government" crowd were all hippies. Now they're running the show and sure as hell, you can't trust 'em.

I disagree in part. Though I believe there are Republican elites that hate the Tea Party, when it comes to the investigation into the IRS I don't see any evidence that any of them are happy with the stalling tactics, the lying and heavily redacted documents this administration has handed over. There are two committees in the House currently involved in the investigation, the Ways and Means committee and Darrell Issa's Oversight Committee along with the Senate Finance Committee. Seven days ago the House found Lerner in contempt of Congress by a vote of 231 to 187. Now she may face prosecution. Maybe not while Eric Holder is head of the DOJ but he won't be there forever. Now a week later Judicial Watch exposes documents the House received that were heavily redacted exposing the targeting of not just Tea Party organizations BUT other conservative groups as well. By them purposely turning over heavily redacted documents that omit evidence of wrongdoing says it all. And now undeniable proof the whole thing was being orchestrated from D.C.. The **** has hit the fan.

It's always the cover up that gets them.

I understand where you're coming from but if this turns out to be what it appears to be we'll find that Republicans were in on it too. This is a symptom of government as a whole getting too big for its britches, not just one party or the other.

Bull****, these emails obviously show the IRS was doing it's job and teabaggers and their allies are just mad their illegal political activity was stymied now the GOP is trying to get angry white people on their side by making something out of their illegal behavior. It just so obvious when you feel about it!

You forgot that "you heard about it on the news just like everybody else".

Ok, so I checked around at a couple of un-named heavily Liberal weighted forums Im a member of ...... :)

So apparently, these documents " havn't shown us anything new '' ( sound familiar ? ) and prove both Liberal and Conservative groups were targeted proportionally. ...

Hmmmm.....so they're going to lead with that ?

I'm getting the feeling that the Obama supporters on this site are just hoping we stop posting here so it can drift off the front page. :)

EXCLUSIVE: IRS Stonewalling FOIA Request Surrounding Correspondence With Democratic Members of Congress.....

On May 21, 2013 the National Republican Senatorial Committee sent the IRS a Freedom of Information Act request asking for "any and all documents or records, including but not limited to electronic documents, e-mails, paper documents, photographs (electronic or hard copy), or audio files," related to correspondence from January 1, 2009 and May 21, 2013 between thirteen different Democrat members of Congress and top IRS officials. Those officials include former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman, former Commissioner Steven Miller, senior IRS official Joseph Grant and former head of tax exempt groups Lois Lerner. Members of Congress named in the request include Sen. Schumer (D-NY), Sen. Reid (D-NV), DSCC Chair Sen. Bennet (D-CO), Sen. Landrieu (D-LA), Sen. Pryor (D-AR), Sen. Hagan (D-NC), Sen. Begich (D-AK), Sen. Shaheen (D-NH), Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO), Sen. Franken (D-MN), Sen. Warner (D-VA), Rep. Braley and Rep. Peters (D-MI).

Thomas and Higley have sent six letters with the same language and different dates to Sowards requesting more time to locate information in order to fulfill the FOIA request. Most recently, the IRS has asked for a deadline of August 1, 2014 to produce information.

Last month we learned the staff of Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee Elijah Cummings had been in touch with the IRS about voter fraud prevention group True the Vote, despite direct denials from Cummings any contact with the IRS had ever occurred.....snip~

Wow, still nothing from the Libs ?

Guess they don't want to touch this one. Looked at Democrat Underground and they are not touching it either. Looks like the libs on here don't have any guidance on criticizing this one yet.

And they call us dittoheads.

Let me guess, two years ago you were a part of the "There is no scandal, nothing to see here" crowd eh?

I think he's using the " Tommy Vietor " line to make a joke.

Should we take the silence from the left as an admission that there is a "there, there", the scandal is real, and it's now so obvious they are no longer willing to defend the IRS?

This... pleases me.

It's not only "there" but the scandal appears to extend to Democrats in Congress.

Well, this one and Benghazi eh Grim.

But, but, but.... there's not even a "smidgeon" of corruption in the IRS.

I think Obama is just shaky on the the meaning of the word "corruption". In his defense, though, he is from Chicago where it is called "politics"...

true that....

I lived in Chicago for a very long year and was amazed at the corruption that the people there seemed to take for granted. Chicago was also the most racist city I've ever lived in and I've lived in quite a few all over the country, mostly in the south.

Remember Carney and all the gang claiming that this was the actions of a few lower level employees in Cincinnati? Well according to these emails this was tied to several branches, most significantly the main IRS branch in Washington DC. The emails also point out that the "Tea Party" was specifically singled out and discussed in emails, while none of the emails examined thus far have had a word to say about progressive groups at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't singling out the Tea Party make this political targeting and constitute significantly more than "a smidgen" of corruption?

Where's Pete ?

Where are the mixed bag of desperate Liberals attempting to mitigate away the latest batch of data that proves Obama ( and every other Democrat ) lied ?

So it wasn't "rogue agents in Cincinnati " ??

Yep, Media Matters must not have published a response yet, so the libs on this board don't how to react yet.

Never under estimate Media Matters, what you guys have to worry about is your media giving you the full story.

What Right-Wing Media Won't Tell You: Cincinnati IRS Initially Flagged Tea Party Group | Research | Media Matters for America

Right-wing media are cherry-picking newly released emails from Judicial Watch to allege that the Washington D.C. office of the IRS initiated the flagging of Tea Party groups, omitting the full email chain that reveals the Cincinnati IRS office first flagged Tea Party applicants for tax-exempt status for further review.

Judicial Watch Released Batch Of Email Correspondence Between IRS Officials Pursuant To FOIA Request. On May 14, conservative group Judicial Watch released a batch of documents dating back to February 2010 that included a chain of email correspondence between the Cincinnati, Ohio Internal Revenue Service (IRS) office and the Washington D.C., based IRS office. Judicial Watch reported that "The documents came in response to an October 2013 Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed after the agency refused to respond to four FOIA requests dating back to May 2013."
