Pentagon pushes Manning transfer for gender treatment

Which isn't in her oath. You can't choose to become Robin Hood whenever you fancy it, as soon as you put on that uniform its game over for you. You are now a tool trained by the military, at the cost of the taxpayer and you WILL obey orders and follow your oath.

It is in her oath to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic. Superiors who commit such crimes are enemies of the United States.

thanks for posting this point of view. one which would say to us that the subordinate troops under lt william calley at my lai were correct in following orders to slaughter the women and children of that vietnamese village. your point of view would tell us that it was Ron Ridenhour who was a traitor because he reported calley's wrongdoing. and just as your point of view would be wrong regarding calley, it is similarly wrong relative to manning. manning did the right thing in whistleblowing government wrongdoing, just as Ridenhour did in whistleblowing the my lai massacre

now to the question at hand. all prisoners deserve essential medical attention. none should receive elective surgery

Excellent points!

BTW, again, although some here have stated otherwise, I have seen nothing that says she is have surgery. Also I think we need to see to the psychological needs of prisoners. It would be inhumane to do otherwise. And again, in this case, I think it's a fair question for debate what the nature of such treatment should be.

manning is a he not a she!

he stuck with being born male.

Exactly. If people think having surgery and taking hormones makes someone a woman than they should see if you take a sample from the man made vagina they made and use it to grow a vagina. If it comes out to be a penis, I win. Of course, they could just argue they could grow a vagina and transplant it on the man, but then it's just a clone of another womans vagina. I would still win.

Transfer the little traitor to one of the old time maxsec facilities - they'll make him a woman, no funding needed.

If he would have actually looked at all the info he released I might feel differently about him being a traitor. But seeing as how he released some 700000 files there is no way he even knew the majority of what he was releasing. He was upset with they Army and depressed and was trying to punish the Army. Nothing more nothing less. He is a traitor not some hero.

And as such he should receive zero special treatment.

I have to agree. Blindly releasing confidential and secret files does not make you a whistleblower, it makes you traitor.

The concept of man and woman is a product of the ego and is a mental construct. I think that it's a valid topic of debate as to whether sexual reassignment surgery is moral, but I think, in practical terms, it's clear gender notions are based on mental constructs.

That is cruel.

Now that's an interesting argument. I had not thought about it like that. But let's assume that it is indeed true that she did not examine the material before releasing it, I still think that the underlying motivation was a revulsion at the atrocities that were being committed with taxpayer money and a desire to stop it. As such, I don't consider her a traitor.

Do you have a reference that states that she did not examine the material?

exactly. this is nothing more than cosmetic procedures tax payers should not be forced to foot the bill for this.

I think they would have given him aiding the enemy if he knew. I watched the special on him. I am going off memory now, but I believe he went the computer to download music (his cover) and downloaded files from secret and classified directories. He then got them out of the country quickly without looking over the information. I need to find the timeline for ya.

Medical treatment is a basic human right, so there's nothing wrong with this in my eyes. And it's not all that expensive.

Medical Treatment, but I would consider this an elective surgery therefore the taxpayers shouldn't pay for it.

If he/she isn't covered by the ACA, he/she can always file a complaint.Which we know will be quickly handled, eh?

In any case, we really know that this isn't your, mine, or any other American's problem,eh?

This is Pvt Mannings own personal problem and s/he will have to deal with it.

I believe Mr./Ms. Manning already has.

Manning is one lucky son of a bitch, if he/she was forty or fifty years older and what he/she did, selling out America while wearing the uniform happened during the 50's, 60's or 70's he/she would have found himself/herself at the old infamous Fort Leavenworth. Today they have a new PC Fort Leavenworth.

Thanks. I would appreciate that.

As soldiers you are obliged to follow the geneva convention and basic military protocol so your comparison lai massacre is not relevant in this case ( my opinion). Did manning ofer this information to his direct superior? Did he contact any politicians? No he did not he simply released it onto the web and in doing so potentially endangered thousands od American and Nato soldiers.

Are we really debating whether or not tax payers should be footing the bill for sex change operations?

SMH...... just..... wow.

Either you're just rolling and you honestly don't have a ****ing clue what you're talking about, probably both.

It's true, as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Lib/Progressive D) said, if you want to know what's inside Obamacare aka ACA, you have to read it.
I haven't read it all yet. How about you Wiseone ?

I think she did this country a great service by letting people know the type of things their hard earned tax money is being wasted on.
You're talking about hormone therapy and sex change operations, right?

If I had a good answer I would post it.

All that I know is that, judging from the photos that I've seen, Pvt Chelsea Manning needs a lot of work.

If you know what I mean.

And that kind of work is expensive.
