Pentagon pushes Manning transfer for gender treatment

Thrn we have an empasse of principles. Traitors, deserve death.

I think she did this country a great service by letting people know the type of things their hard earned tax money is being wasted on.

Lile that pos Snowden, there is a right way and a wrong way. The ends do not justify the means.

If people who think that he/she should have the surgery, then they can put up a donation to have it done. After all, "it isn't that expensive".

If we were doing things the right way, there would have been no need to do it. In that case, doing it should have led to harsh punishment. But that is not the case. Therefore she should have been let go, with credit for time served. That way, she could get her own gender treatment, whatever that needs to be.

Defense officials say the Pentagon is trying to transfer convicted national security leaker Pvt. Chelsea Manning to a civilian prison so that she can get treatment for her gender disorder.

Eventually this person will be freed from prison and will have to be re-integrated into society.

My question is: how much (If anything.) do the rest of us owe this person? The treatment that this person will require will be pretty expensive, I'm sure.

Who is going to pay those bills? Who should pay those bills?

Any ideas?

Why are taxpayers having to pay for this to begin with? this is an elective surgery that has nothing to do with saving his life. he should be on the hook for all bills and expenses related to the surgery.

So you don't believe the prison system should look after the psychological needs of prisoners?

Not only that but the report that was posted didn't say she was having surgery.

Meh...cant blame the guy for wanting to spend the next few decades playing with female boobs. Hell of a way to pass the time when there isnt much else to do. Hopefully he will make sure they remove the mirrors. He makes for an ugly 'woman'.

That was a good one! I could not have done better myself!!! "A" for you brother! :lamo

Medical treatment is a basic human right, so there's nothing wrong with this in my eyes. And it's not all that expensive.

I agree if its necessary for his physical helath but I just don't see how this is?

Mental and physical health are very much related. Also, remember that the report that was posted makes no mention of surgery.

Selective surgical procedures should not be defined as psychological needs. Even if they are in this case, what Manning wants involves spending a disproportionate amount of recesources on one prisoner.

In short, Manning should be afforded the same level of psychological care given to other prisoners. If one needs comprehensive and customized attention for a psychological need, it is best not to commit crimes.

If it was affecting him so much mentally maybe he should of had the change when he was a free man instead of betraying his country?

Again, the article that was posted made no mention of surgery.

no i don't think tax payers should be on the hook for elective surgeries. if you want elective surgeries then that is on you.

Good point, but the article does not rule it out either (does not supply details regarding what is "acceptable treament").

The article does, however, say that Manning wants to live as a woman. If "living as a woman" involves being assigned to a woman's prison, my guess is that he is going to need to be anatomically female- at least in the approximate sense of the word. This would involve surgery.

First of all she didn't betray her country. She did her country a service. Next of all it's inhumane to deny people psychological treatment that they need just because they are prisoners. Having said that, I think it's fair to debate what level of treatment is needed in this instance.

Again, for the umpteenth time, the article made no mention of surgery.

She certaintly did betray her country unless of course the US military has changed its oath recently.

i think you need to read the article again because he is wanting treatment to convert to a women.
the military does not provide this nor should they. neither should a prison. these are elective surgeries. there is no reason that the taxpayer
should be forced to pay for someone's elective surgery.

let one of his family members start a donation if they wish. taxpayers should not be on the hook for something like this.

Show me in the article where it says she wants to or is going to have surgery. Maybe I missed it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

No she didn't because she help expose the crimes and waste of taxpayer money that is going on in the name of fighting a so called war on terror.

i just posted it thanks.
just to let you know an aside if you will. it is a guy not a girl and no amount of surgery will change that fact.

I don't see where you posted it. It's just a bodily designation that is the result of the activity of the mind.

Which isn't in her oath. You can't choose to become Robin Hood whenever you fancy it, as soon as you put on that uniform its game over for you. You are now a tool trained by the military, at the cost of the taxpayer and you WILL obey orders and follow your oath.
