I know I saw another thread about this, but it is full of partisan bickering. I was hoping to start a thread that is about the Nigerian girls and the things that are being done to rescue them.

I think it's just terrible what happened here, and SOME of the girls are missing from the video. I wonder if they're still alive. Also, I can't imagine how frustrated their parents and loved ones must feel right about now. I hear that it's quite a large area where they could be keeping these girls, so the government would naturally have problems pinpointing their location. However, I don't think there is ANY excuse for allowing these types of groups to become SO powerful to begin with, and THAT is the part that really pisses me off!

Scared but alive: Video purports to show abducted Nigerian girls - CNN.com

The girls sit quietly on the ground, dressed in traditional Islamic garb, barely moving, clearly scared. "Praise be to Allah, the lord of the world," they chant.
The video, released by French news agency Agence France-Presse, purports to show about 100 of the 276 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram fighters nearly a month ago. It's the first time they've been seen since their abduction April 14. In separate shots included in the 27-minute video, a man says he will release the girls only after imprisoned members of Boko Haram are freed, according to AFP. Escaped girl recalls kidnapping ordeal Nigerian father: Nothing has been done First lady: Kidnappings 'unconscionable.' The man identifies himself as Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. Nigerian officials disputed that claim on Monday, arguing that Shekau is dead. Other experts say the notorious terror group leader is still alive. Whoever the man in the video is, Nigeria's interior minister said, the country isn't interested in negotiating a swap anyway, according to AFP. But at a later briefing, the director of the National Orientation Agency, a government information ministry, said negotiations could be an option when it comes to rescuing the kidnapped girls.

I heard on the radio that some or most of these girls are Christian but have now converted to Islam, completely voluntarily and without duress, I'm sure.

Sincere prayers that the terrified girls are returned to their homes. What I'd like to see happen to those cowardly terrorists is decidedly not Christian. Real brave it is to take on a bunch of teen-age girls.

Definitely cowards! Seems like they always go after the most vulnerable. I just wish that other governments would do MORE to prevent these groups from becoming so powerful to begin with. I feel really bad for the families of those girls, having to sit around wondering what is happening to them? That must be pure hell.

Mrs. Obama has been most vocal about this issue, and with good cause.

I wonder if she feels just as badly about the many youngsters killed by her husband's drone actions around the world?

If she feels as badly, I wonder why she is silent about that?

Dude, I said I didn't want this one to turn into partisan poop! Please, try to control yourself. Thanks in advance.

Henry's here to tell us how it was actually the Jews that are responsible.

And I had such high hopes for a group whose name translates to "Education is a Sin".

They are modern day barbarians. The only thing that has changed in the last 10,000 years for this kind of human filth is the weapons used.

It's rooted in opposition to Western Education. Anyone who dares to send girls to schools in the places these animals control runs this risk. I cannot say here how much I dislike this particular gang of misogynist monsters hiding behind the cloak of religion without receiving multiple infractions.

You're very welcome. Mine was not a partisan comment. At least it was not INTENDED to be such.

I was appealing to and questioning her humanity, not her partisan alignment.

I heard yesterday that they would let the remaining girls go if their brethren were let out of prison.

By 'remaining' I mean the ones who have not been sold off to forced marriages in other countries.

One thing I do know is millions of Tweets don't do **** beside make people feel good about themselves..

Yes, the leader of that group has stated as much. The man is obviously a religious psychopath.

I think she cares. She is a human being with two daughters around that age herself.

It's true, but people feel so helpless and need an outlet to express themselves.

I think that there are times when religion can be good, but other times not so much. It's really more dependent upon how fanatical a person is about their religion I think.

The picture of the girls is pretty troubling. The people who have abducted them are not reasonable. I cannot see a good outcome to this. Any military/police action will be met with using the girls as shields. A prisoner exchange will only bolster their likelihood to do this again.

It's a really complicated situation that I don't see ending well. Things like this make me realize how LUCKY I am to be a US citizen, living here in the good ole US. These governments really need to take control of these groups and not tolerate it. They need to active seek out and destroy these groups before they become such an issue. I know they're probably poor, but let's not fool ourselves, a lot of these countries' governments (not necessarily Nigeria - not real sure) are not cooperative with the US or other countries when it comes to terrorism and other things.

Well, IMO, this makes it 10 times worse.

Not all girls in video were taken in April 14 raid, some relatives say - CNN.com

Some of the girls may have been taken in abductions dating back at least two years, an uncle of one of the girls who escaped and the parents of two missing girls told CNN.

It's unclear if any of the girls shown in the video released by French news agency Agence France-Presse have been yet identified by parents as being among the 276 abducted April 14.

How long have competing tribes been kidnapping women over there? For centuries?

I think she cares. She is a human being with two daughters around that age herself.

Then she should just lean across the bed to her husband and ask what he's going to do about it. Is she hoping to encourage Muslims to clean out the cancer in their midst?

When Al-Qaeda thinks you've gone too far, you're ****ed up, that's for sure.

These people aren't "in the midst" of anyone. They're so far off the deep end that Al-Qaeda is calling them out on their insanity.

Does anyone know what to do about it now? I mean, when a country allows it to escalate to this level??? We all know some of these governments are corrupt as hell, and I don't believe they care one bit about these girls. I think the only reason why they are even pursuing this matter is because of the international attention it's received, so yes, the fact that the first lady is throwing her support behind the girls and their families is a good thing and could have some good outcomes.

The kids killed in the drone attacks are victims of their fathers' evil ways
