Rams select Michael Sam, NFL's first openly gay player [W:282]

The truth is the truth. You'd prefer you Christ-deniers dictate what's right and wrong, right?

No. I would prefer you leave the judgement of sinners to your God and instead of taking on the role of your god by casting judgment you instead take on the role of the messenger of the word of your god and set an example of how having him as a part of your life has benefited you. Generating a curiosity on the part of those who observe that happiness and peace that they might then explore that faith. And that that exploration be left to them and your god while you stand back in a quietly supportive role thus exhibiting your faith in the competence of your god to manage his potential followers

During that brief 3.5 year average NFL career they make $1.9 million, hardly leaving them in the Joe Sixpack category. ;)

The average career earnings of athletes across America’s major sports will shock you | For The Win

Those lasting 3.5 years are not averaging 1.9 million. Those numbers are dramatically skewed by the few that make the big dollars, so let's try to be a little bit accurate.

I'd expect 23-year-olds making $600,000 a year to get in more trouble than they do, to be honest.

So much for the poverty causes crime BS. ;)

Saying sin is wrong is not condemning people. So please get a better argument.

My bad, clearly you're lauding his behavior here. What was I thinking? Seriously, look up the word, link provided.

Condemn - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Way to celebrate sin, Agent J. Just because somebody trashes the scriptures and engages in carnal sodomy in violation of God's law isn't a legitimate reason to make a public spectacle over it.

I wish him well as a football player but would strongly advise him to repent of his sin(s).

.
As for what Christ would do, read Revelation chapter 2 to see how he judges sexual immorality.

I have no interest whatsoever in looking up your version of fiction.

I don't think anyone has ever claimed that poverty causes crime. Poverty can be (and quite often is) a contributing factor to many crimes, and it certainly is a factor in arrest and incarceration rates.

There's another one of your fairy tales.

The Constitution is dated in “the year of our Lord," 1787.

LOLOL...so if the Constitution said 1787 A.D. it would be secular? You do realize that Anno Domini means in the year of our lord? Again, show me where God is mentioned in the Constitution. This is a date for crying out loud.

Report: Four teams liked Michael Sam if he want undrafted - CBSSports.com

If the draft had finished without Michael Sam being selected, he would have had an NFL job within about five minutes. This idea that he was "only drafted because he is gay" is utterly stupid on every conceivable level.

Can't that whole argument be crushed if you just look at his stats? I mean I realize that other factors are taken into consideration but don't his stats fall within the range of other other players that have been drafted from college? If his stats don't put him into the top 2% or whatever who's to say what else was considered that made someone decide he was worth a try?

College stats mean surprisingly little when it comes to NFL potential.

So what do they use?

Still, those blowing an opportunity to make the NFL a career positive are not typical by educational opportunity or financial means. The urban youth (ghetto snipes?) that cause a big part of the crime skew the general crime statistics as well.

For the most part, I think scouting reports, performance at the scouting combine/pro day, and interviews are much more important to NFL teams than stats. Stats aren't irrelevant, but they always have to be taken with a grain of salt because the caliber of competition throughout college football varies, and that can really do a lot to hide certain players' shortcomings or overly accentuate their strengths.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Times have changed. It used to be football coaches would make players mad by calling them gay, to get them to hit harder.

Should I have said Communists instead?

It doesn't make a particularly ridiculous statement any less ridiculous, if that's what you're asking.

Well, they're not supposed to be able to. They don't get to cash in without violating some rules until they turn pro.

Your view on that is horse dung.

WHat if its not a sin to Mikes religion?
In fact when I see hate like you posted I thank god I live in the country I do.

sorry peoples rights and freedom bothers you lol

And I strongly advise you to mind your own business. I would enjoy you saying that to his face.

That is my business, according to Ezekiel 33. If you don't like it submit it to prayer.

It's not Judgment, it's enlightenment. Trying to save the unregenerate is the work of God's people.

"When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved." - Ezekiel 33

Sam always said he wanted to be seen as a football player, not as a gay football player...

So why isn't this in sportstalk?

Dear lord, grant me the patience not to say what I am truly thinking to this fanatical religious right wing extremist.

How's that?

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Congrats on him being drafted. Being gay, Christian, straight, Muslim or whatever else shouldn't be a qualifier or disqualifier.

I also don't look to the NFL for moral support or trying to validate things...
