Dallas cop indicted for shooting mentaly(sic) ill man

DALLAS (AP) — Two Dallas police officers have been indicted in the last two weeks for shooting and wounding residents in incidents where the initial police accounts were later contradicted by video.

Cardan Spencer and Amy Wilburn were both charged with aggravated assault by a public servant.

Spencer was indicted last week after shooting a 52-year-old man standing several feet away from him. A police report filed in the case initially claimed the man, Bobby Bennett, lunged at Spencer with a knife.

A neighbor's surveillance video camera captured a recording that showed Bennett was several feet from the officers and didn't appear to move toward them before gunfire caused him to crumple to the ground.

Does anyone think the Dallas Police Chief's proposal requiring all on-duty officers to wear body cams will make a difference? Sometimes videos have helped to show that cops have lied in their reports - just Google using the phrase dash cam shows cop lied You will find links like - Charges Dropped Against New Jersey Man After Dashcam Shows Cops Lying and Attorney: Dashcam Video Lead To Suspension Of 3 Miami Police Off - NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports - KOTV.com | "MIAMI, Oklahoma - Three Miami police officers were suspended after dashcam video of an arrest painted a much different picture than the officer's report."

Are LEOs assaulting and shooting innocent citizens at a greater rate than in the past or are these reports, a result of portable technology, simply providing us information unavailable at an earlier time? This new information causing changes in the way we look at events may cause a perception that things are getting worse when really it is simply a matter of more information.

I think most people realize that could be a case of perception, but with so many people in jail, jails so big and taking so much tax money, the percentage of low income/no income people with harsh sentences including death-by-police while wealthy are immune because of "affluenza," it's hard not to figure there has also been an increase in police aggression and corruption.
 
I don't know if controversial and illegal incidents involving police officers are increasing or not from earlier years but there's a new story about police wrong doing from somewhere in the U.S. practically every day now in the media.
