Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says[W:46]

This is nothing more than an appeal to authority. Don't try to bull**** people and mystify science. The science is easily understood by those who try.

Appeal to authority? Do you understand what that means? Climate scientists are the authority. False appeal to authority would be blogs, "skeptic" sites that promote junk science, and listening to right-wing radio and television that serve opinion backed by agenda.

Global warming is a scam; probably the biggest government scam in American history.

So let me get this right... you think virtually all the scientists around the world are part of a conspiracy to output fraudulent science all in an effort to get funding so they have work? Nobody is blowing the whistle? Nobody is talking about all the fraudulent science being output? All these scientists are scumbags that lie to get a paycheck? Wow that is quite the narrative.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

I'm just saying that I didn't blame it on any movie. Maybe at first before I learned more facts, but don't put that explanation on me when I didn't even make that excuse.
Nick didnt respond to you and say "YOU said". He said "Obama and Hillary said..." (cuz again...nothing personal, but why would Americans at large care what you or I said?). The president and Sec of State lied. They have covered up. They have ignored. Its an issue because the questions have never been answered. A lot of people want it to go away because they know the answers suck.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

There's no proof that it's man made.

AND

When you get promoted you can lecture me; until them, save it.

No proof that it isn't even partially man made or is being altered by man? Bull**** sir.

I don't need a promotion to lecture you, you are neither my superior nor inferior, you're merely a peer, and nothing MORE. HA, promoted, give me a ****ing break you clown your nothing but another member.

Climate Change: Consensus

There, no one said it is man made, what I'm trying to convey to you is that humanity may be speeding up an already natural process which is bad because what happens naturally shouldn't be altered in such a way.

I raise the BS flag on this one. There are more than 17 pirates in Somalia alone.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Antarctica... Its land... With ice on it. Its not ice floating in water. As that ice melts it will then add to ocean levels.

Nothing you said was false.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Thread's a ****ing mess.

Scientists are NOT always right!!!!

Arctic warming has become so dramatic that the North Pole may melt this summer (2008), report scientists studying the effects of climate change in the field. "We're actually projecting this year that the North Pole may be free of ice for the first time [in history]," David Barber, of the University of Manitoba, told National Geographic News aboard the C.C.G.S. Amundsen, a Canadian research icebreaker. - National Geographic News June 20, 2008

April 22, 1990 ABC, The Miracle Planet: “I think we’re in trouble. When you realize how little time we have left–we are now given not 10 years to save the rainforests, but in many cases five years. Madagascar will largely be gone in five years unless something happens. And nothing is happening.”

1988 Rob Reiss asked official Climate Scientist Dr. James Hansen how the greenhouse effect was likely to affect the neighborhood below Hansen’s office in NYC in the next 20 years, whereupon Climate scientist James Hansen issues this prediction, to be fullfilled in 20 years, which is to say, doom by 2008: “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water.

Michael Oppenheimer, 1990, The Environmental Defense Fund: “By 1995, the greenhouse effect would be desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots…”(By 1996)

June 11, 1986, Dr. James Hansen of the Goddard Space Institute (NASA) in testimony to Congress (according to the Milwaukee Journal): “Hansen predicted global temperatures should be nearly 2 degrees higher in 20 years, ‘which is about the warmest the earth has been in the last 100,000 years.’” (prediction for 2006)

Sept 19, 1989, St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “New York will probably be like Florida 15 years from now.”

June 8, 1972, Christian Science Monitor: “Arctic specialist Bernt Balchen says a general warming trend over the North Pole is melting the polar ice cap and may produce an ice-free Arctic Ocean by the year 2000.”

It is now pretty clearly agreed that the CO2 content [in the atmosphere] will rise 25% by 2000. This could increase the average temperature near the earth’s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit. This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter.- - Presidential advisor Daniel Moynihan 1969

"By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people ... If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000." Paul Ehrlich 1971

“Scientist ponder why World’s Climate is changing; a major cooling is considered to be inevitable – New York Times May 21, 1975

Of course scientists aren't infallible. Who is? The idea of the studies was to show that there is an issue and that humanity may be one of its catalysts. Not to mention we have never experienced something like this before with the advent of logci and technology. This truly is a first in human history, and mistakes are bound to happen. That's why nothing is a certainty, but the goal of the scientists is to present the possibility, which in this case is a negative.\\

"scientists aren't always right"

Science is a systematic search for truth through hypothesis, observation, theory-crafting, and conluding, the truth is hard to determine, and as such we experiences failures.

Every bit of evidence being presented is circumstantial, at best.

Said the guy sitting in his Air conditioned home, on the computer, using electric produced by coal burning power, with his gasoline car in the garage, shoes made in China, eating deep fried chips, and drinking coke out of a plastic bottle...

If you believe what you write, than do something about. When the people who write these reports start living the way they imply, and state I need to live, to "save the planet", then I'll believe them. Until then, it's all just PR.

"Vitually all the scientists around the world", don't claim that global warming is real. Only the ones that stand to make a buck do.

Seems you should be putting the other person inline, and not me...

The science like a near 100% correlation to sun spots vs global temperature?

The science of diminishing returns? CO2 is an atmospheric blanket, not an exothermic reaction in the atmosphere. It does not create heat it only keeps it in. that no matter how many blankets I put on me, I won't go on fire, and with each blanket I retain less heat as a percentage than the one prior... It's the heat source that is the problem not the blankets.

You completely dodged everything. And belief doesn't mean act upon. I believe (through prejudice) that we should annihilate China and all of its inhabitants, because I'm prejudiced. But at the same time my logical mind tells me I am wrong and that would be inhumane, therefor I don't work toward achieving it.

Also I hate deep fried chips and am disgusted by all soda, our house isn't being air conditioned because we decided on not having central air (we have an actual ac unit but its in storage because we do not need it), I can't change anything about China being great at making my shoes (and my Ipad) cheaply, and a car is a necessity for me to get places far away (my private school isn't even in my city).

Your dodging of everything is idiotic. I believe we may be catalyzing something we shouldn't be catalyzing, and as such I have said so. If I provide logic and facts as to why I believe should be sufficient to believe in what I believe or at least respect my opinion and still disagree. For you to disagree however because of a lack of what you think is action then that makes you a fool.

People live by the bible, yet we do not stone others for being Gay, religious or not.

If you continue to be unreasonable then be gone from this thread, science has no use for unreasonable people who refuse to accept logic, observation, and according to our world, fact.

But you will get heat exhaustion :) Which will then lead to death :)

LOL defending science with biblical references. I take you seriously now!

Explain how we - humans- influence sunspots? Have you ever seen a sunspot vs temperature chart it correlates much more closely than CO2. Why do you dismiss sunspots and blame CO2?

Can you explain how the law of diminishing returns does not apply to increased CO2 in the atmosphere?

For the cultists: simple one step solution to all your CO2 woes (as well as a few others) - kill ALL the cows in the world. That right there would do it to reach your goals.

Btw, good luck with that.

But you will get heat exhaustion :) Which will then lead to death :)

Why would I get heat exhaustion [heat stroke will kill you not exhaustion] from 10 blankets but not 5? I have had 10 blankets on me and survived... At some point the number of blankets doesn't matter. Why is CO2 any different?

Fool, I wasn't defending science with the bible, I was showcasing a fault in your way of thinking using the bible as an example. Absolutely in no way related to "defending science with the bible".

Why would I have to explain how the law of diminishing returns doesn't apply to increased C02 in the atmosphere? I never made the claim in the first place. All I have been saying up to this very point is that humanity MAY BE catalyzing a change in global climate, feel free to take it with a grain of salt if you wish, because nothing is certain.

heat exhaustion is the precursor to heat stroke, therefor yes if untreated it can lead to eventual death.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

If you are going to name call, then you can leave this thread.
I wasn't defending science with the bible, I was showcasing a fault in your way of thinking using the bible as an example.
You injected the bible into a scientific debate. You called on emotional responses for a logical discussion to further your point... because you had nothing else. And there's fault in my thinking?

Why would I have to explain how the law of diminishing returns doesn't apply to increased C02 in the atmosphere? I never made the claim in the first place.
Do you or don't you believe that the increased in CO2 is contributing to global warming? At some point the amount of an increase will be meaningless. The IMPC (or whatever it goes by) has to continuously revise (lowering) it's temperature precictions while still increasing CO2 concentrations, so this whole 10+ degree scare is possibly wrong. There is little to no temperature increase the past 10-15 years - with record CO2 emissions... humm. Law of diminishing returns.

All I have been saying up to this very point is that humanity MAY BE catalyzing a change in global climate, feel free to take it with a grain of salt if you wish, because nothing is certain.
We may, we may not. Maybe the alternative is an ice-age. That doesn't sound very good either. I'd rather be warm than cold.

I think the take home point is you could do more for the environment by turning off your computer and riding a bicycle, but I doubt you believe that it matters... yet somehow you think when i read your posts, it's going to make me want to change my behavior... hummm.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

when in the history of the planet have we consumed the natural resources at the rate we currently are?

Never. Man is the problem, every person contributes to the horrors of man on the planet earth, do your part and make sure you're no longer part of the problem!
