Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says[W:46]

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

I'm sure you can and so can I. But I've seen no evidence the effort is effective. In fact, I've seen no evidence that any evidence has any meaning at all. But, these have been addressed countless times. We all can repeat verbatim what will come next. I've been sitting here predicting each reply. Nothing new. The fact remains when all is said and done, the overwhelming support from the scientific community remains that GW is real, and that man plays a role in it. And each little effort of running away with a little information, often out of context, has failed to change the facts.

Thats because when progressives hear something or read something that isn't towed by their party they believe it's a lie and it goes out one ear and out the other....

That's the difference between progressives (RINOS included) and non-progressives - facts you don't agree with are just lies... You're a dedicated political gangbanger..

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Reading is fundamental. So read this, which explains the distortion you just posted. And this article is not from FOX News, dictated to them by the coal industry. It is from a group of SCIENTISTS.

I've already read all that...

The fundamental problem with a lot of those ideas is that they focus on concentration, but will be the first ones in like to contradict their own ideas and point to global temperatures rising, despite ice caps growing.... Climatologists love to pull data out their asses and only focus on industrialized areas and portray such areas as the "norm."

The fact of the matter is the climate does change - and the climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years (if our understanding of earth is correct).

There is also evidence to suggest that pollution actually escapes the atmosphere and is not contained on earth - and there is a lot of data to back this up. Not that I support pollution but as an individual who, which I may consider myself an amateur meteorologist and what I know about other gasses - I damn well know earth doesn't indefinitely hold pollution or gas.

Climate change is certainly not a threat, however it is just a natural process - and all the advanced geological records prove that (the only time they don't is when there was a natural catastrophe such as a volcano or alien/extraterrestrial strike).

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Benghazi happened in the midst of a secret CIA mission. They usually don't talk about those things, and if a President - ANY President - were to do so, I'd worry about his fitness for the job. Have you ever asked why that city was lousy with CIA operatives? Or what the ambassador was doing there?

The only reason Benghazi is still in the news is because of the RW blogosphere who are making a pre-emptive strike against Clinton. If the Republican party wins in 2016, you'll never hear about it again. Because they know that it was a CIA thing. They know the CIA doesn't talk, and they don't actually want the CIA to start talking.

Now, the topic of the post - as far as climate change goes, the evidence certainly points to the climate changing. The question is why? Is it people, or is it natural? Climate changes, that's just how it is. The best thing I can think to do is to plant more trees. Even if climate change isn't caused by people, they pump out oxygen (which is good no matter what your political opinion) and they look nice.

Obama lied people died, we want to know why.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

The warmers are proof of that!

No, the scientist are actually experts in their field and as such know more than most of us.

I think that argument can be made best against the deniers. The fact remains, most most all scientist agree. And they don't agree with how you're presenting things. I can't change that fact to suit you.

Extremist comments aside, there are some of us with Science backgrounds who look at the
evidence and find it wanting.
That CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that has an accepted Physics direct response, is not in question.
I can go with the IPCC's number of 1.2 C for each doubling.
The problem with the predictions, are the mid to top end, 3 to 4.5 C, which are not
based on known Science, but a loose collection of possible open loop feedbacks.
It cannot be said for sure if the feedbacks will be positive or negative, (produce warming or cooling).
In the last 133 years, the adjusted temperatures have increased by .8 C,
The additional CO2 direct response can account for .6 C of that increase.
This leaves only .2 C, for all other change in 133 years, including natural ,and un quantified feedbacks.
If there is a positive feedback, it must be small enough to fit in that .2 C.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

If - when that happens, I'll move back to Elephant Butte, maybe even sooner. :peace

LOL, sometimes I go up on the Crest, the 10,600+ foot mountain that forms the eastern boundary of Albuquerque, and marvel at the ancient sea fossils clearly visible in the rocks up there. And then I descend the vertical mile to the high desert floor where you look down anywhere and see much more sand, dirt, and rock than vegetation. And we are always aware that our high desert state, interspersed with drought hardy alpine environments, has the least surface water of any state in the union.

The fossils themselves bear testimony to the ancient pangea period when New Mexico was mostly shallow seas. Once it separated from the sea, we were rain forest and the dinosaurs roamed this entire area some 200 million years or so ago. Those sea fossils remained though all that until massive plates in the Earth's crust began moving around making massive changes in the geography of the entire area. Some 10 million years ago, the Sandia mountains were pushed up to roughly their current elevation, those sea fossils with them.

How can anyone look at that and not believe in climate change? Or believe that we puny humans can make much difference in the process?

Hey Rocket...dont get shocked now...but when people think of Benghazi, they dont think of you.

I'm just saying that I didn't blame it on any movie. Maybe at first before I learned more facts, but don't put that explanation on me when I didn't even make that excuse.

The error in this thinking is as you state a greenhouse gas. That is like a blanket. no matter how cold my house is, I can put on 100 blankets, but I won't get so hot that I go on fire and combust. I may get warm. I may get tostie, but I will reach a point of diminishing returns - in other words, each additional blanket will yield less retained heat than the blanket before it.

I can go with the IPCC's number of 1.2 C for each doubling.
Read above, it is not linear.

The problem with the predictions, are the mid to top end, 3 to 4.5 C, which are not

Not linear.

The thought that you can somehow control the environment to this extent is amazing.

here's a question, what happens if the sun tosses out a few extra micro bursts every day? Does it matter how much C02 is in the atmosphere?
Or if it doesn't put out as much energy for whatever reason? Does the CO2 somehow compensate for this?

In the last 133 years, the adjusted temperatures have increased by .8 C,
The additional CO2 direct response can account for .6 C of that increase.
100 years ago how was the sun's energy output measured? If you can't answer this question, then there is NO way you can calculate the CO2's effect.

How do you measure direct CO2 temperatutre increases? HOW DOES CO2 RAISE THE TEMPERATURE? It's no some magical exothermic reaction in the atmosphere. It's a blanket. ALL THE HEAT/ENERGY COMES FROM THE SUN!

Your statements PROVE that SUN is warming! Maybe it's 0.2, maybe it's 0.6, maybe it's 0.9 and the earth is using different mechanisms such as la nina/ el nino and other energy transfers of heat to mechanical, chemical, sound, & light.

Anyone who thinks they understand the climate and what makes it behave the way it does is a fool.

That just isn't true because there has been too much from too many different scientists who still hold exactly the same opinion. You are simply wrong.
Bandwagon fallacy.

Unlike you, I understand the flawed methodology and recognize the fraudulent pseudoscience for what it is.

You can get a kazillion "scientists" to say 2 + 2 =5 and you still will not convince me that it is so. I am too intelligent to fall for that crap.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Then what is your opinion as to why we were attacked and why we didn't send any protection?

The attack was clearly meant to coincide with the anniversary of Sept. 11. For the ambassador to take security would have meant leaving the actual embassy unprotected, which clearly wasn't a good idea. As far as sending more protection, we usually aren't in the habit of sending in the Marines whenever a CIA thing goes wrong.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Obama lied people died, we want to know why.

Because sometimes secret CIA **** blows up in very bad ways for those involved. How's that for why?

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Why was no help sent THAT is the question

Because you don't go sending in the Marines when you want something to be a secret.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

The ambassador was under attack all night long by organized terrorist, what secret?

Prez wasn't around when it happened... Where was he? That's the secret

Experts, or not, they have zero evidence that the changes in the climate are anything more than a natural process.

The American ambassador was killed during the attack. How long was the secret operation going to remain a secret?

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Experts, or not, they have zero evidence that the changes in the climate are anything more than a natural process.

Actually they do have evidence, the change may be part of a natural process as science has dictated that the earth has gone through fluctuations of cold and hot and this may simply be a hot fluctuation, but the issue they seem to have found is that we are speeding up the heating process terribly which can cause a train-wreck of other things to happen.

The ignorant ones are the individuals (I use that term here loosely here) who don't ask questions or question anything and just accept what they're told and do as they're told.

That is real ignorance.

Our society exists because the so called "ignorant" ones DID ask questions and challenged the status quo.

What do you think society would look like if people didn't question what was allegedly known previously as "common knowledge?"

Yes, asking good questions is key to science. The rub here is asking good questions. Accusing climate scientists of silly notions on a whim with no evidence or understanding of the issue is not asking good questions, it is demonstrating ignorance.
