Prayer is not banned before council meatings...anyone wishing to pray to whomever or whatever, and for whatever is not banned from doing so.

Same for football games, High school comencement, class, voting, or any other public meeting. The contention is that prayer must be stated as a group before these meetings as a part of the meeting.

Whether there are prayers or not at town council meetings should be none of the Supreme Court's business, IMO.

Having typed that, I wish the federal government would exclude religion completely from everything it does....I want the federal separation of church and state to be complete as possible.

As long as prayers aren't used to proselytize or to denigrate non-believers I don't have a problem with it. It will be interesting to see if all religions are able to pray rather than preach.

I agree. Jesus said for us not to act like the hypocrites, who pray in public so that others may see how holier-than-thou they are, but to go into thy closet and pray to "Our Father, which art in secret".

As for sports, God doesn't listen to "help our team win this game" prayers. He has more important prayers to listen to, from the sick, the hungry, and those who have lost hope.

It was a wrong decision made by cowards who are using 'tradition' to trump the first amendment. I hope Muslims, atheists, satanists and Flying Spaghetti Monsters followers start demanding inclusion. That will probably scare many institutions away from the practice, if they really practice "inclusion" as required. People planning to attend a meeting who want to pray should do it silently or hold their prayer meeting outside the meeting room. There is no legitimate governmental interest reason in imposing prayers on everyone attending a public meeting.

This from the person who was outraged that some Subways in the UK decided to stop selling pork products. One would and will question your sincerity regarding freedom equally applied.

My choice of prayer is irrelevant. What I wouldn't do, is start screaming, "separation of church and state", if a town council decided to say any prayer, regardless of religion, because simply saying a prayer isn't the government endorsement of a religion.

Yeah right, you would just start screaming Sharia law if a prayer from the Koran was done before each meeting. You and the other righties would be flipping their lids if that happened. Face it, since it is CHRISTIAN prayers you have no problem with it, if it were Islamic prayers you would be throwing a s**t fit.

You seem to have confused realism with hate. Simply put, a city council meeting is not the place to be catering to delusions. Church is there for that.

Why do so many religious people insist on imposing their nonsense on the rest of us?

The Judicial Branch of Government as decided to take on the Legislative Branch of Government...because the Legislative Branch can't effectively do it's job. And the Conservative Justices know that it can't be vetoed by the Executive Branch. SWEET. :roll:

So I guess the Old Spanish Inquisition is now the NEW United States of America Inquisition. Is this god telling us that prayer really works? Have the Christians finally out prayed everybody else? God does work in mysterious ways. Every religion believes that it's god is own their side. Looks like their wrong. They simply haven't prayed enough.
